Wikimedia Ghana User Group is a community of volunteers who improve and promote Wikimedia Foundation's knowledge projects in Ghana – especially Wikipedia.
The community is also dedicated to recruiting and training others to contribute to the wikis, creating opportunities for people interested in volunteer work, and forming partnerships that will promote Wikimedia projects in Ghana.
The group initially began with a Wikimedia Ghana chaptership application, but began outreach under the name Planning Wikimedia Ghana in 2012, which was granted permission to use Wikimedia trademarks for outreach activities, as we continued to plan a chapter. In 2014, we transitioned to a user group, and later in 2020, became a registered nonprofit organization.

[edit]Wikipedia turns 25!
[edit]On 15th January 2026, Wikipedia celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter century of the free encyclopaedia. This milestone highlights the dedication of volunteers worldwide who contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects, ensuring knowledge is open and available to all.
To celebrate, Wikimedia Ghana User Group (WMGH) organised a range of activities for its community, including a virtual anniversary watch party, special anniversary materials, and its annual Wikipedia anniversary Jollof Party.
Virtual Anniversary Watch Party
[edit]The Wikimedia Foundation launched global celebrations with a virtual birthday event, and Wikimedia Ghana User Group (WMGH) hosted a Virtual Watch Party at its office to allow community members to partake in commemorating this incredible milestone together.
Anniversary Logos for Display Pictures(DPs)
[edit]To celebrate the anniversary, contributors and supporters can now download special Wikipedia 25th Anniversary logo DPs provided by the Wikimedia Ghana User Group (WMGH) to showcase their participation on their social media profiles, and other online platforms.
Merchandise for Active Contributors
[edit]As part of the celebration, WMGH is giving out limited-edition merchandise to active editors, including T-shirts and tote bags, recognising their contributions to the Wikimedia movement and the growth of free knowledge in Ghana.
WMGH Wikipedia 25 Jollof Party
[edit]The Wikipedia Anniversary Jollof Party, hosted by Wikimedia Ghana User Group is an annual celebration of the sum of all knowledge, bringing together active editors and contributors from regional nodes across Ghana to connect, reflect, and celebrate Wikipedia.
