The Ghanaian Wikimedia Community Awards celebrate individuals, groups, and initiatives that have made remarkable contributions to the Wikimedia movement in Ghana throughout the year. These awards recognize the dedication, creativity, and efforts of community members in advancing open knowledge and promoting Wikimedia projects across the country.

1. Ghanaian Organizer of the Year
This award honors a Ghanaian community member who has excelled in organizing Wikimedia-related activities and supporting contributors. The recipient will have played a key role in planning and executing events, workshops, or campaigns that advance Wikimedia’s mission. While the focus is on organizational impact, the recipient should also be an active editor on any Wikimedia project, contributing in any language.

2. Ghanaian Community of the Year
This award recognizes a Ghanaian Wikimedia community (user groups or informal groups such as local hubs and school clubs) that has demonstrated exceptional teamwork, collaboration, and impact. The community must show consistent participation in Wikimedia activities, foster inclusivity, and support members in becoming active editors. Their collective efforts should have made significant contributions to any Wikimedia project, in any language.

3. Ghanaian Project of the Year
This award celebrates an outstanding Wikimedia project led or significantly influenced by members of the Ghanaian Wikimedia community. The winning project should have achieved notable success in promoting Wikimedia’s goals, engaging participants, and producing measurable outcomes. Projects involving active editors contributing on any Wikimedia platform, in any language, are especially commended.

4. Ghanaian Newcomer of the Year
This award highlights a new member of the Ghanaian Wikimedia community who has quickly established themselves as an active contributor. Eligible nominees must have joined the Wikimedia movement within the past year and consistently edited at least five times per month. They may contribute to any Wikimedia project, in any language, and should demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment, and potential for long-term impact.

5. Ghanaian language Wikipedia of the Year
This award recognises a progressing Ghanaian Language Wikipedia which has recorded the most significant growth within the year. This category celebrates efforts that strengthen local language representation on the Wikimedia platforms and contribute to preserving and promoting Ghana’s linguistic diversity online. There will be no voting for this category.
6. Most Impactful Node
This award honours the most impactful node that has demonstrated exceptional influence within its region. This category celebrates efforts that strengthen regional participation, community coordination, and sustained contributions to Wikimedia projects across Ghana.

7. Honorary Mention of Node Leads
This recognition honors outstanding node leads who have shown exceptional dedication in coordinating and supporting activities within their respective regional hubs or communities. Recipients of this honorary mention will have demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and commitment to nurturing contributors and advancing Wikimedia projects. Their role is acknowledged as vital to the success and growth of the Wikimedia movement in Ghana. There will be no nominations or voting for this category.
Nominations for the Ghanaian Wikimedia Community Awards are submitted online via an online form. All community members can nominate eligible individuals, communities, or projects that have made significant contributions to the Wikimedia movement in Ghana.
Nomination Deadline: November 31, 2025
Important Notes:
- Self-nominations are allowed.
- All nominations will be reviewed to ensure nominees meet eligibility criteria.
ELIGIBILITY
For Individuals
- Nominated individuals should not have been banned on any Wikimedia projects and must adhere to the Universal Code of Conduct and other friendly space policies.
- Nominated Individuals should demonstrate consistent and meaningful contributions to one or more Wikimedia projects, in any language.
For Projects
- Projects should have published reports demonstrating measurable impact.
- Projects must contribute to expanding knowledge, local language content, or community engagement within the Ghanaian Wikimedia community.
For Groups
- Must be an active Ghanaian Wikimedia community, such as a user group, school club, local hub etc.
- Groups should show significant collective impact, such as events organized, or measurable contributions to Wikimedia projects.

Voting Period: January 9 – January 24, 2025
Winners Announced: February 13, 2026

Voting for the Ghanaian Wikimedia Community Awards 2025 is open to all members of the Wikimedia community.
