The Wikimedia Heritage User Group has about 100 members on its off-wiki WhatsApp platform, where online trainings and activities are carried out. The group adopted a bottom-up approach: polls helped members volunteer their skills, such as photography, videography, video editing, content creation, project management, and research and development, as backend support for the community.
After the first Pattypan training, we discovered participants needed to be trained from the basics, as over 90% were newly onboarded. A daily "word of the day" supports ongoing learning of wiki terms and contribution rules.
