Notes[edit]

  1. Wikimedia LGBT+ Conference (Thomas)
    1. Grants:Conference/Kawayashu/Queering Wikipedia
    2. talk page has review from WMF grants officer https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:CAlmog_(WMF)
    3. Chen posted once 20 September
    4. perhaps time to confirm that they have all the information they need to reveiw this
    5. Fae suggested a phone call with this person
    6. Jeffrey said that he will reach out, refer to this discussion in our minutes, and ask for an update
    7. Fae commented that the WMF staff are more casual about off-wiki communication than on-wiki communication
    8. ideally, we get a confirmation of the money so that we know when we can pay people
    9. Nattes: should we set up a project page for the event? We have a name but it is a red link, especially if we are going to have people ask for scholarships
    10. Answer: probably it is time. The previous delay was because of uncertainty about getting WMF scholarships
    11. WMF has not said no, and there is belief among organizers that WMF will fund the full amount
    12. Zeljko: how can we get appropriate submissions?
    13. Rachel: we have not gotten this far in planning because there is not yet funding. Some issues to resolve:
      1. to what extent will WMF be participating?
      2. to what extent will we align with any Wikimedia strategic planning
      3. what other issues are necessary to discuss (some are on the grant page)
  2. Discussion of AffCom representation for the UG (Jeffrey)
    1. each year this group has to submit a report to AffCom
    2. for example, during the Affiliate Selected Board Seat election, or for eligibility to the Wikimedia Summit, we have to be in good affcom compliance
    3. keeping and publishing minutes is helpful
    4. question: is AffCom putting new pressure on this group in any way?
no, but we do need to maintain the routine compliance which every Wikimedia organization must maintain
    5. How can we organize to keep compliance?
    6. the wiki community of volunteers do some
  3. Josie president of Wikimedia UK has been advocating for the hiring of an administrator
    1. Pharos: see this simple report from New England Wikimedians -
      https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/New_England_Wikimedians/Reports
    2. comment - these reports are a foundation for collaborations with external partner institutions, requests for funding, and our claims of legitimacy
    3. Amir: should we not be making subpages of Wikimedia LGBT+ to document our events?
    4. Nattes: for Francophone Wikipedia there are reports of LGBT+ events in French language on the les sans pages project and there could be links from those reports in the Wikimedia LGBT+ project page. ##:ex : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Les_sans_pagEs/ConcoursContinuum2018 , https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Les_sans_pagEs/Ateliers_Lestime
    5. Who would host the position
UK, Austria, and Slovakia have expressed interest
  4. Friendly space / code of conduct / anti-harassment
    1. Amir: I have been on the Technical Code of Conduct committee and also participated in other discussions on this matter
    2. Amir: there is a page for developing a universal code of conduct.
    3. Amir proposes to represent Wikimedia LGBT in this. Much of the discussion is happening in email and coordinated by WMF staff.
    4. People agreed and no one opposed Amir representing the group in these discussions. Amir has a reputation in the Wikimedia LGBT+ community for good engagement in the Wikimedia Technical Code of Conduct and for often discussing conduct in Wikimedia projects.
    5. Universal Code of Conduct
    6. shame that discussion is happening in the background and not in public space
    7. it is public now!
      1. Wikimedia community code of conduct
      2. these minutes
      3. next issue English Wikipedia Signpost
      4. Talk:Universal_Code_of_Conduct#Wikimedia_LGBT+_meeting_minutes_October_2019
  5. Wikimedia Foundation to hire "Lead Program Manager, Anti-Harassment" - https://boards.greenhouse.io/wikimedia/jobs/1898856 (thanks Ɱ)
