Wikimedia Laureate
The Wikimedia Laureate is an annual award presented to an individual within the Wikimedia movement for their sustained, long-term, and exceptional contribution to free knowledge across Wikimedia projects.[citation needed]
The Wikimedia Laureate was introduced in 2021 as a successor to the 20th Year Honouree award, which was a one-time recognition given in 2021 to mark the 20th anniversary of Wikipedia. The change to "Laureate" established the award as a permanent, high-prestige category within the annual awards ceremony.
