Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos

Wikimedia MKD continues with campaigns aimed at enriching the content of Wikipedia, but also creating a well-written article, with well-introduced references and good illustrations. The lack of illustrations in the articles leaves room for further editing of the article, and that is exactly what we aimed for this time, that's why we are part of the international campaign "Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos".

The campaign ran from July 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025.

Wiki club in Kumanovo - the newest Wiki club

On July 2, 2025, a new Wiki Club was opened in Kumanovo. This club is part of the educational program of Wikimedia MKD and aims to introduce students to the world of Wikipedia and free knowledge. A total of 12 students from several schools in Kumanovo participated in the event.

The event was opened by Snezana Štrkovska, Executive Director of Wikimedia MKD, and Bosa Filipović, Educational Program Manager of Wikimedia MKD, who held an interactive presentation on the basic principles of Wikipedia, the importance of free access to information, and the way encyclopedic content is edited. The students listened with curiosity about the editing process, the rules for using sources, and the importance of accuracy and neutrality in writing.

After the introductory part, the students were given the first practical opportunity to edit on Wikipedia – a step that for many of them was a completely new and exciting experience. The day before was July 1, Canada Day, and that was the theme that inspired the first articles. The students edited articles dedicated to Canadian women writers, which allowed them not only to get acquainted with the process of encyclopedic writing, but also to research significant figures from another cultural context. With the support of the mentors of Wikimedia MKD and the club coordinator, Stojna Arsovska-Donevska, the students applied their new knowledge.

The result of this first activity was more than successful – a total of 19 new articles were written on Wikipedia in Macedonian. For many of the students, this was the first time they saw their work immediately become part of the global encyclopedia – a sense of pride and motivation that will surely lead them further on their wiki journey.

This opening represents a fresh start for young people from Kumanovo who want to research, write and learn in a different way. With the activities within the Wiki Club, they will have space to express their curiosity and creativity, to develop their research skills and to become active participants in the spread of free knowledge. The Wiki Club in Kumanovo represents a valuable reinforcement of the network of such clubs across Macedonia and promises a productive and inspiring future for all its members.

Editing Days

Editing days is an activity that lasts for the whole year in organization of Wikimedia MKD. Each Tuesday and Thursday different topics are given and the participants create or improve existing articles. In July 2025 there were in total 10 editing days, where participants edited on different topics in order to enrich the content of Wikipedia. The editing days and the topics were:

• 1.7.2025 - Beaches
• 3.7.2025 - Historical European martial arts
• 8.7.2025 - Former islands
• 10.7.2025 - Government ministries of Bosnia and Herzegovina
• 15.7.2025 - Bowling
• 17.7.2025 - Albanian cuisine
• 22.7.2025 - Learning disabilities
• 24.7.2025 - War poetry
• 29.7.2025 - Churches in Cyprus
• 31.7.2025 - Fantasy books

Cumulatively, 5 different users took part in these calls and edited. In total, 27 new articles were created during the editing days in July 2025.

Editing Weekends

Editing weekends is another project that is organized during the whole year. During weekends (Saturday and Sunday) user are welcomed to take part in this project activity and improve or enrich Macedonian Wikipedia content. During these weekends, the participants are expected to edit articles on given topics. In Јuly 2025 the following editing weekends were organized:

• 5-6 July 2025 - Petroleum
• 12-13 July 2025 - Parks
• 19-20 July 2025 - Bermuda
• 26-27 July 2025 - Cat breeds

In total, during these weekends there were 3 different users editing on the given topics and they created 11 new articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia.
