1lib1ref 2026
[edit]
Wikimedia MKD took part in the international call, the editing competition 1lib1ref aimed at improving the quality of sources and references in articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia. The editing competition takes place from 15 January 2025 and ends on 5 February 2025. Throughout this period, editors are encouraged to actively contribute by improving existing articles and strengthening their references. Participants can choose to take part either in the local call on the Macedonian Wikipedia or in the regional call that includes countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
The main requirement for participation is that editors should identify articles that do not contain sources or articles that need additional and more reliable references. After identifying such articles, participants are expected to research and find appropriate, verifiable, and trustworthy sources, and then properly add them to the articles in accordance with Wikipedia guidelines. This process helps improve the accuracy, credibility, and overall quality of the encyclopedia.
Awards are planned for the three most productive participants at both the local and regional levels, as a way to acknowledge their efforts, dedication, and valuable contributions to the project.

Training workshop for students from "Josip Broz Tito" High school
[edit]As part of the Educational Program of Wikimedia MKD, on 30 January 2026, a training workshop for students was held at the Wikimedia MKD premises located in the Youth Cultural Center in Skopje. The training began with a lecture delivered by Bosa Filipović, Education Program Manager at Wikimedia MKD. During this session, students were introduced to the mission and activities of Wikimedia MKD, the core principles of Wikipedia, the rules of encyclopedic writing, and the importance of free knowledge and responsible online contribution. The training was attended by six students from the “Josip Broz Tito” High School in Skopje, who demonstrated strong interest in the process of creating and editing encyclopedic content.
Following the theoretical introduction, the training continued with a practical session. Students worked on selecting topics and structuring articles in accordance with Wikipedia’s standards. With the support and guidance of Wikimedia MKD mentors, participants edited articles, organized content, and aligned their work with Wikipedia’s editorial guidelines. Through this hands-on approach, students gained practical experience in editing and maintaining articles within the world’s largest online encyclopedia.
As a result of the training, the participants created a total of 13 new articles, contributing to the expansion and improvement of free encyclopedic content in the Macedonian language. These outcomes highlight the importance of cooperation between educational institutions and Wikimedia MKD and emphasize the role of students as active creators of knowledge.

Editing days and editing weekends January results
[edit]
During January 2026, Wikimedia MKD continued the organization of regular Editing Days and Editing Weekends as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality and quantity of content on the Macedonian-language Wikipedia. These activities provided structured opportunities for community members to create new articles and enhance existing ones across a variety of topic areas.
Editing days were held regularly throughout the month, taking place twice per week. Each session was dedicated to a predefined theme, encouraging participants to focus their editing efforts on specific subject areas and contributing to the systematic enrichment of Wikipedia content.
