Collaboration with the Botanical garden at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje

As part of its efforts to establish new partnerships with cultural, educational, and scientific institutions, Wikimedia MKD held a working meeting with the person responsible for the Botanical Garden in Skopje at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje. The meeting focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration and identifying activities that could contribute to the documentation, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge related to botany, biodiversity, and the natural heritage of Macedonia through Wikimedia projects.
During the discussion, representatives of both institutions exchanged ideas on potential joint initiatives, including content creation and improvement on Wikimedia platforms, photographic documentation of plant species and collections, as well as activities aimed at engaging volunteers and experts in sharing free knowledge. Particular attention was given to opportunities for increasing the visibility of the Botanical Garden and its valuable resources through Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia projects.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish cooperation between Wikimedia MKD and the Botanical Garden. The partnership will be implemented over the coming months through a series of coordinated activities, with further planning and communication taking place as specific initiatives are developed. This collaboration represents an important step toward strengthening the connection between Wikimedia projects and scientific institutions, while supporting the broader goal of making reliable and freely accessible knowledge available to the public.
"Coordinate Me 2026" results

"Coordinate Me 2026" was the third edition of the international Wikidata competition focused on creating and improving items with geographic coordinates. The initiative aimed to enrich Wikidata by encouraging contributors to add or improve items with the geographic coordinates property (P625), and it ran from 1 to 31 May 2026.
This year, Macedonia was among the countries included in the international "Coordinate Me 2026" competition, which enabled editors from different parts of the world to contribute to the improvement and expansion of data related to the country on Wikidata. The inclusion of Macedonia in the contest enabled the global Wikimedia community to improve the accuracy and completeness of geographic information about the country’s settlements, cultural and historical heritage, natural landmarks, public institutions, and other notable locations.
During the contest, a total of 33 editors from the international Wikimedia community actively participated in creating new records and improving existing ones. Their work focused on adding missing geographic coordinates, correcting inaccurate data, and improving structured information. The contributions covered a wide range of topics, including cities, villages, archaeological sites, churches, monasteries, museums, schools, government institutions, mountains, rivers, lakes, and other notable places in Macedonia.
The results of the competition were highly significant. Participants made more than 3,540 edits across over 2,280 different Wikidata items, substantially increasing the quality, precision, and usefulness of data related to Macedonia. Through these efforts, the contest not only improved the representation of Macedonian locations on Wikidata but also strengthened the availability of reliable geographic information that can be used across Wikimedia projects and by the broader public.
Editing Week "History of Human Rights"

The editing week “History of Human Rights” was an initiative dedicated to enriching the Macedonian-language Wikipedia with content related to the development, protection, and significance of human rights throughout history. This week was part of the international initiative Wiki for Human Rights, dedicated to human rights and free access to knowledge, through which volunteers and editors from different countries contributed to creating higher-quality and more accessible encyclopedic content on this topic. The editing week took place from 1 to 7 June 2026.
During the editing week, participants were encouraged to:create new articles and improve existing ones, add reliable external links to articles; and add images to articles in order to make them more illustrative. All articles were required to be written in accordance with the principles and rules of Wikipedia. Therefore, all articles were expected to be written in an encyclopedic style and include references. During the editing contest and after its conclusion, all participants were required to list the articles with which they participated.
A total of 16 editors participated in the editing week, during which 321 articles were created and improved. This represents a significant contribution to Wikipedia in Macedonian language, both in terms of quantity and thematic coverage.
Based on the established criteria, the most successful participants were selected and they were awarded:
- First place –Tiveropolnik
- Second place –19user19
- Third place – Dandarmkd
Wikimedia MKD continues to support and organize such initiatives as part of its broader mission to promote free knowledge, community engagement, and the development of high-quality educational content.
Editing competition "CEE Spring" results

The “CEE Spring 2026” editing contest was part of an international initiative that brings together Wikimedia communities from Central and Eastern Europe. Its goal was to improve the coverage of topics related to the region and to strengthen cooperation between different Wikipedia language editions.
The contest was held from 1 to 30 April 2026. During this period, participants expanded existing articles and created new ones on topics related to the CEE region, including history, culture, geography, institutions, and society.
All articles were required to follow Wikipedia’s policies, be written in an encyclopedic style, and include reliable sources. Participants also had to register the articles with which they competed.
The submitted articles were reviewed by an evaluation committee of experienced Wikipedians, who assessed the content according to Wikipedia’s standards and guidelines to ensure a fair and objective selection of the winners.
After the end of the competition, Wikipedia in Macedonian got 451 articles created and improved and in total 9 different users participated in this April competition.
The final results revealed the awarded users, as follows:
- I Award - Тиверполник with total 1.331 points,
- II Award - 19user99 with total 711 points,
- III Award -Marco Mitrovich with total 643 points.
Besides these three awards, the competition gave the following awards as well:
- Award for best article - Тиверполник for the article Operation Storm
- Award for the most edited articles: 19user99 with 86 edited articles for 51 different participating countries
- Award for best existing user: IvanKonev123 with 377 points
The competition significantly improved Macedonian Wikipedia content on the given topic.
Editing Days
[edit]Editing days is an activity that lasts for the whole year in organization of Wikimedia MKD. Each Tuesday and Thursday different topics are given and the participants create or improve existing articles. In June 2026 there were in total 9 editing days, where participants edited on different topics in order to enrich the content of Wikipedia. The editing days and the topics were:
- 2.6.2026 - Paintings by Edgar Degas
- 4.6.2026 - Volcanoes in Iceland
- 9.6.2026 - Wolf Prize in Physics laureates
- 11.6.2026 - Art in the 1780s and 1790s
- 16.6.2026 - Ministries of Montenegro
- 18.6.2026 - Populated places in the Municipality of Kočevje
- 23.6.2026 - Literature in the 1980s and 1990s
- 25.6.2026 - National parks in Sweden
- 30.6.2026 - Types of ash trees
Cumulatively, 6 different users took part in these calls and edited. In total, 48 new articles were created during the editing days in June 2026.
Starting from January 2026, awards for the Editing Weekends and Editing days project will be granted on a monthly basis. Each month, the most active and productive participants will be recognized for their contributions. This change aims to further motivate continuous participation and encourage sustained improvement of Macedonian Wikipedia content throughout the year.
Editing Weekends
[edit]Editing weekends is another project that is organized during the whole year. During weekends (Saturday and Sunday) user are welcomed to take part in this project activity and improve or enrich Macedonian Wikipedia content. During these weekends, the participants are expected to edit articles on given topics. In June 2026 the following editing weekends were organized:
- 6-7 June - Museums in Europe
- 13-14 June - Scientific expeditions
- 20-21 June - Lost paintings
- 27-28 June - Genera of Apocynaceae
In total, during these weekends there were 2 different users editing on the given topics and they created 15 new articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia.
Starting from January 2026, awards for the Editing Weekends and Editing days project will be granted on a monthly basis. Each month, the most active and productive participants will be recognized for their contributions. This change aims to further motivate continuous participation and encourage sustained improvement of Macedonian Wikipedia content throughout the year.
Editing days and editing weekends results

During June 2026, Wikimedia MKD continued the organization of regular Editing Days and Editing Weekends as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality and quantity of content on the Macedonian-language Wikipedia. These activities provided structured opportunities for community members to create new articles and enhance existing ones across a variety of topic areas.
Editing days were held regularly throughout the month, taking place twice per week. Each session was dedicated to a predefined theme, encouraging participants to focus their editing efforts on specific subject areas and contributing to the systematic enrichment of Wikipedia content.
Editing weekends were organized during weekends, allowing volunteers to dedicate additional time to Wikipedia editing beyond the regular weekday sessions. Each weekend focused on a thematic topic, enabling participants to explore and develop content in greater depth.
So the results of June 2026 are as follow:
- A total of 7 editors actively participated in the Editing Days and Editing Weekends.
- Participants collectively created 61 articles and improved 2 articles on the Macedonian-language Wikipedia.
Starting from January 2026, awards for the Editing Days and Editing Weekends project are granted on a monthly basis. Each month, the most active and productive participants are recognized for their contributions during that specific period. For June 2026, the award for the most active participant was granted to P.Nedelkovski
These results highlight the positive impact of sustained community engagement and demonstrate the effectiveness of structured editing activities in expanding free knowledge in the Macedonian language. Wikimedia MKD remains committed to continuing these initiatives and encouraging broader participation in the future.
