Wiki Loves Monuments 2026
[edit]
Wiki Loves Monuments 2026 is being held in Macedonia from 1 to 30 September 2026. The aim of the photography contest is to collect freely licensed photographs of monuments, protected sites, and other objects representing the cultural heritage of Macedonia.
Participants can upload their own photographs to Wikimedia Commons under a free license (Creative Commons 4.0), making them freely available to the Wikimedia community. To participate, photographers are required to complete the official registration form and submit photographs of cultural heritage sites included in the selected list of monuments.
The selected list has been specially prepared for the competition and includes cultural heritage monuments in Macedonia that currently do not have photographs available on Wikimedia Commons. By photographing these sites, participants will help fill existing gaps in visual documentation and make photographs of previously undocumented monuments freely available to everyone through Wikimedia projects. Only photographs of monuments included in the selected list are eligible for the competition.
The best photographs will be selected by a professional jury. A total of four prizes will be awarded, including prizes for the three best photographs and a special prize for the participant who photographs the largest number of different eligible monuments.
To qualify for the special prize, a participant must photograph at least 25 different cultural heritage sites from the selected list of monuments.
Certificate of Appreciation for Wikimedia MKD from the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle
[edit]
As part of the activities of Wikimedia MKD, cooperation with cultural institutions in Macedonia continued through partnerships aimed at supporting the sharing and promotion of free knowledge. One of the institutions with which Wikimedia MKD has established cooperation is the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle in Skopje.
In recognition of the cooperation and activities carried out so far, оn 3 September 2026, the Museum awarded Wikimedia MKD a certificate of appreciation. The certificate was received on behalf of Wikimedia MKD by Bosa Filipović, Education Program Manager at Wikimedia MKD.
The cooperation with the Museum is part of Wikimedia MKD’s broader efforts to establish connections with cultural and educational institutions and involve them in activities related to Wikimedia projects. Through such partnerships, institutions have the opportunity to become more familiar with the Wikimedia movement and the possibilities for making cultural, historical, and educational content freely accessible.
The certificate of appreciation represents recognition of the cooperation established between the two organizations and the activities implemented within this partnership. It also provides a basis for continuing and further developing the cooperation in the future.
Wikimedia MKD will continue working with museums and other cultural institutions in Macedonia in order to support the documentation, preservation, and sharing of knowledge and cultural heritage through Wikimedia projects.
Wiki Loves Film - Editing Activities on Macedonian-language Wikipedia
[edit]
As part of the international Wiki Loves Film initiative, Wikimedia MKD organized two editing activities in September 2026 aimed at enriching film and cinema-related content on the Macedonian-language Wikipedia.
The first activity was held on 3 September 2026, with an editing day dedicated to Academy Award winners for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Participants focused on creating new articles about actors who have received this prestigious film award over the years, helping to improve the coverage of notable figures from different periods of world cinema.
The activities continued on 5–6 September 2026 with an editing weekend dedicated to the filmography of Brigitte Bardot, one of the most recognizable figures of French and European cinema. Editors worked on articles about films from different periods of her career, expanding the coverage of her filmography as well as French and European cinema on the Macedonian-language Wikipedia.
A total of 17 editors participated in the two activities and created 37 new articles. The newly created content includes biographies of notable actors and articles about films, contributing to broader and more diverse coverage of cinema-related topics in the Macedonian language.
Through these thematic editing activities, Wikimedia MKD continues to encourage its editing community to identify and address content gaps related to film and cinema. As part of Wiki Loves Film, these activities contribute to making more knowledge about films, actors and film heritage freely available on Wikimedia projects and accessible to Macedonian-speaking readers.

Editing Contest "Painting Movements and Techniques"
[edit]
The “Painting Movements and Techniques” editing contest is being held on Wikipedia in Macedonian from 17 September to 16 October 2026. The contest is dedicated to enriching and improving content related to painting, with a particular focus on different artistic movements, styles, and painting techniques.
Participants are encouraged to create new articles or improve existing ones related to the contest topic. All contributions should follow Wikipedia’s rules and standards and provide accurate and well-structured encyclopedic information. The articles will be evaluated based on their quality, length, encyclopedic style and compliance with Wikipedia guidelines.
The contest is open to both experienced Wikipedians and new participants who would like to become involved in editing Wikipedia in Macedonian. In addition to expanding the number of articles in this field, the activity provides an opportunity for participants to improve their editing skills, explore new topics, and contribute to making knowledge about art more accessible in the Macedonian language.
The most successful participants will receive prizes for their contributions, with additional awards for the best article and the best new participant. Through the contest, Wikimedia MKD continues to encourage active participation in the Wikimedia community and the creation of high-quality, freely available content on Wikipedia in Macedonian.

Training workshop for students from "Saints Cyril and Methodius" primary school in Veles
[edit]A training session for students was held at the “Saints Cyril and Methodius” Primary Schoolin Veles, bringing together 13 students interested in learning more about Wikipedia and contributing to free knowledge. The activity was organized as part of the educational activities of Wikimedia MKD and was conducted under the mentorship of the coordinator of Wiki Club Veles, Lili Arsova. The training provided the students with an opportunity to become more familiar with Wikipedia and to learn how they can actively contribute to its content.
At the beginning of the activity, Lili Arsova delivered a short introductory training session, presenting the basic principles of Wikipedia and explaining how articles are created and edited. The students learned about article structure and the basic rules that should be followed when adding new content to Wikipedia. Particular attention was also given to presenting information in a clear and encyclopedic style and to understanding the main steps involved in creating a new article.
Following the introductory session, the students moved on to practical work and had the opportunity to apply what they had learned by creating new articles on the Wikipedia in Macedonian language. During the activity, they worked on structuring their articles, adding and organizing content, and becoming more familiar with the editing process. The practical part allowed them to experience the process of contributing to Wikipedia directly and to develop their editing skills through hands-on work.
Professor Ilko Stojanovski from the school also attended the activity and supported the students during the training and practical work. His participation contributed to the cooperation between the school and Wiki Club Veles and provided additional support to the students throughout the activity.
As a result of the session, the 13 participants created 15 new articles on the Wikipedia in Macedonian language, gaining practical editing experience while contributing new content to the encyclopedia.

Training workshop for students from Gymnasium "Koco Racin" in Veles
[edit]On 29 September 2026, Wikimedia MKD organized a Wikipedia editing training for students at the “Kocho Racin” High School in Veles. The activity brought together 16 students and combined an introductory session with practical editing work. The training was designed to give students a better understanding of Wikipedia and introduce them to the ways in which they can actively contribute to free knowledge.
At the beginning of the training, Bosa Filipovikj, Education Program Manager at Wikimedia MKD, introduced the students to the basic principles of Wikipedia, the process of creating and editing articles, and the importance of presenting information in a neutral and encyclopedic manner. The students also became familiar with the basic structure of a Wikipedia article and some of the key rules that editors should follow when contributing content.
During the practical part, the students learned how to create articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia by translating and adapting content from the English Wikipedia. They received guidance and support from Lili Arsova, coordinator of Wiki Club Veles, who assisted them throughout the editing process. Teachers Gordana Sazdova and Elizabeta Nikolova from the school also supported the organization and implementation of the activity.
As a result of the training, the 14 participating students created 16 new articles on Wikipedia in Macedonian language. The activity provided them with practical Wikipedia editing experience while contributing new content in the Macedonian language. For many of the participants, the training was also an opportunity to experience firsthand how knowledge on Wikipedia is created and shared.
Through activities like this, Wikimedia MKD continues to introduce young people to Wikipedia and encourage their active participation in the creation and sharing of free knowledge.
