Progress in 2009[edit]

  • Wikipedia ends the year with 14,678,281 articles. One year ago there were 12,021,330 articles. There has been an increase of 2,656,951 articles, which means 18.10% more articles.
  • Now there are 2 Wikipedias with more than 1,000,000 articles (one year ago, there was 1), 29 with more than 100,000 (24), 90 with more than 10,000 (81), 184 with more than 1,000 (163), and 245 with more than 100 (233).
  • Wiktionary ends the year with 6,854,158 articles. There are 2 Wiktionaries with more than 1,000,000 entries, 15 with more than 100,000, 49 with more than 10,000, 83 with more than 1,000, and 124 with more than 100.

The Vietnamese Wikipedia rises to 100,000 articles in a metaphorical hot-air balloon.
  • The Vietnamese Wikipedia pushes past the 100,000-article mark with Shenyang J-11, part of a series of articles on military aircraft by Nalzogul. Around 5% of the Vietnamese Wikipedia's articles were originally created by bots.

  • The Wikipedia of Ripuarian languages has reached 1,000,000 edits (not counting deleted ones) in the first hours of the new year. It added Prositt Neujohr! about a poem traditionally recited New Year's morning before breakfast, while presenting a pretzel-shaped sweet bread to the family.
