2. Activities and Events
[edit]2.1 Wiki Loves Earth 2025 – Tunisia
[edit](June–July 2025)
Wiki Loves Earth 2025 in Tunisia was organized for the ninth consecutive year, reaffirming Wikimedia Tunisia’s commitment to promoting natural heritage through free knowledge and photography.
During this edition, more than 300 photographs were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. A shortlist of 15 images was selected and submitted to the international Wiki Loves Earth team. While participation levels were lower compared to previous editions, the contest benefited from the strong contribution of one highly active participant, who uploaded a significant number of high-quality photographs.
Despite the challenges, the competition continued to contribute valuable visual content documenting Tunisia’s natural sites.
2.2 Art+Feminism 2025
[edit]As part of the Art+Feminism 2025 campaign, Wikimedia Tunisia organized three workshops in three different schools across Tunisia. These workshops aimed to empower women by introducing them to Wikimedia projects and encouraging their active participation as contributors.
Participants were trained on:
- The principles of free knowledge
- Editing Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects
- The importance of addressing the gender gap on Wikimedia platforms
These activities contributed to raising awareness about gender imbalance in online knowledge production and supported women in becoming new contributors to Wikimedia projects.
2.3 Women’s Day in Tunisia
[edit]In celebration of Women’s Day in Tunisia, Wikimedia Tunisia organized a dedicated event focusing on:
- Wikipedia and gender representation
- The underrepresentation of women contributors
- The lack of articles about notable women
The event included a presentation on the gender gap within Wikipedia, followed by a practical demonstration on how to create and improve Wikipedia articles about women. This activity highlighted the importance of increasing women’s visibility and participation within Wikimedia projects.
2.4 Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 – Preparatory Workshop
[edit]As part of the preparations for Wiki Loves Monuments Tunisia 2025, Wikimedia Tunisia organized a workshop to introduce the competition, its objectives, and participation rules.
During this event:
- The lists of protected monuments on Wikipedia were reviewed and updated
- Newly classified monuments were added
- Participants were introduced to the importance of documenting cultural heritage
This workshop served both as a preparatory activity for the contest and as an awareness-raising initiative on Tunisia’s rich cultural heritage.
As part of Wiki Loves Monuments, we organized a photowalk in the south of Tunisia to document monuments that had not previously been photographed.
The results of Wiki Loves Monuments were announced in December, and the award ceremony will be organized as part of the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia.
