Background and History

The Gambia Wikimedia Community (GWC) was formed to promote free and open knowledge in The Gambia through Wikimedia projects. The group emerged from grassroots volunteer efforts focused on improving Gambian content on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikisource, and on building local editing capacity through training and outreach.

Affiliation

The Gambia Wikimedia Coordinator has submitted an application for affiliation to the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee (AfCom). While the application is currently under review, the group continues to operate as an active community organization, building local capacity, promoting Wikimedia projects, and engaging contributors across the Gambia.
