ποΈ Welcome to Wikimedia Zanzibar User Group
Wikimedia Zanzibar User Group is a community-based initiative that brings together individuals passionate about advancing free knowledge and open access to information through Wikimedia projects. Established in 2024 following the Wiki Student Summit held in Arusha, the group emerged as a collaborative effort to extend the Wikimedia movement to Zanzibar, with a focus on promoting digital literacy, cultural preservation, and educational empowerment.

π Our Story
Wikimedia Zanzibar User Group traces its roots to the Wiki Student Summit 2024, an annual gathering of young Wikimedians in Tanzania focused on fostering collaboration, innovation, and local engagement. Inspired by discussions on regional representation and sustainable Wikimedia growth, a cohort of participants from Zanzibar proposed the creation of a dedicated user group.
Following the Summit, this idea matured through continued mentorship, community dialogue, and capacity-building efforts, eventually culminating in the formation of the user group.
