Wiki Loves Parliaments in Styria
For the first time since 2013 we had a Parliament Project in Austria – while we were always convinced of the potential of the project (regarding useful content for Wikipedia and Commons, as well as concerning useful local contacts and educating politicians about free knowledge and free licenses) it was hard to find the right people in the state parliaments to get new projects started. In the end, our close cooperation wihtin the DACH community helped us in this regard, as German volunteers managed to set up contacts in Austria the context of one of their events in Germany. Hence, the project ended up to be a bilateral cooperation – in the proven manner of many similar photography projects before: a team of Austrian and German photographers and editors met in Styria an managed to photograph over 95% of all politicians of the Styrian Parliament, as well the the parliament building and public parts of the sessions. In addition, many articles could be improved (not counting improvements by inserting pictures) as a result of the interaction between editors and Wikimedians. The event was also used to foster local community building in Graz – volunteers were invited to join the social program in the evening before and one volunteer even spontaneously came to support the project during the day and learn more about this kind of photography projects.
