Celebrations for the tenth anniversary of Wikipedia in Dhaka[edit]

Celebrating 10 Yeas of Wikipedia and spread Wikipedia to the Bangladeshi community Wikimedia Bangladesh (WMBD) arranged several events both Online Campaign and offline Campaign.

Wikipedia Workshop for bloggers

Wikipedia Workshop[edit]

Wikipedia Workshop for bloggers community was a part of Wiki-X event which was held tentatively on Friday, 7th January. The academy taught the members of the blogger community in Bangladesh, who have the facilities and the knowledge on how to post their knowledge on the Web in Bengali language, but are not entirely aware of Wikipedia, how its works and how to contribute to Wikipedia- especially in Bengali language. Moreover they were also interested in contributing to Wikimedia Commons with their photos and videos. Over 50 participants were participated at this academy.

Kites for Wikipedia

Kite Flying Festival[edit]

On 14th January there was a day long traditional event at Dhaka, where people were flying kites. WMBD were also participating that event with a Wikipedia marked kite. The number of participants were 20-30.

Wikipedia Birthday Party[edit]

We had a Birthday party on 15th January, 2011. We celebrated the party with a party cake and High tea. Around 100 people (Wikipedians, well-wishers, journalists, guests) were present. Also we were showing video clip screening about Wikipedia at the party and some raffle draws.

Milestone[edit]

The idea of having a Bangladesh chapter began in 2009. Since then, Bangladeshi Wikimedians have been hosting regular offline activities for the purposes of realizing this goal. We formally submitted our bylaws to the Chapters Committee (now AffCom) in April 2011. Final approval from the Wikimedia Board of trustees came a few months later on October 3, 2011. We were the 39th chapter to be approved by the Wikimedia Foundation board.
