[edit]The Africa Wiki Challenge (AWC) 2025, organized by the Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) in collaboration with Wikimedia communities, including the Wikimedians of Ethiopia User Group, is an annual online contest aimed at enhancing the representation of African content on Wikipedia and its sister projects. Running from May 25 to June 30, 2025, this year’s theme, "Reclaiming Our Narrative: Justice for Africans and the Diaspora through Reparations," aligns with the African Union’s Year of Justice. The campaign seeks to document African histories, perspectives, and advocacy efforts for justice and reparations, with a focus on amplifying Ethiopian voices and narratives.

Primary Goals:
- Improve and create Wikipedia articles related to historical injustices, reparations, and African resilience, with a focus on Ethiopian history and culture.
- Upload images, audio, and videos to Wikimedia Commons to visually represent key moments in Ethiopian and African history.
- Translate content into Ethiopian languages (e.g., Amharic, Oromo, Tigrinya) to ensure wider accessibility.
- Foster collaboration through edit-a-thons, training sessions, and community engagement events in Ethiopia.
Focus Areas: Ethiopian history, cultural heritage, contemporary issues, and contributions to the African diaspora.

Location in Ethiopia: Addis Ababa, with additional virtual and local events planned.
Key Activities in Ethiopia:
- Edit-a-thons focusing on Ethiopian historical figures, cultural landmarks, and reparative justice.
- Mobile photography training to encourage contributions to Wikimedia Commons.
- Translation sprints to localize content in Amharic, Oromo, and Tigrinya.
Virtual Office Hours: Weekly sessions every Friday during the contest period to support contributors. Register for office hours here.
