The Wikimedians of Japan User Group will host West-Japan Wikimedia Conference 2025 at the Osaka University Nakanoshima Center on December 6th, 2025.

In February 2025, we held the Japan Wikimedia Conference 2025 as a mini-event within the Open Source Conference Tokyo 2025 Spring, where we asked some to give talks on Wikimedia-related topics.

This time, our goal is to create a more casual forum where Wikimedians active in Japan can share their experiences and quick tips. We aim to make this a place to share both the history and the current state of the Wikimedia movement in Japan.

Goals

The West-Japan Wikimedia Conference 2025 is a conference for people who are involved in the Wikimedia movement in Japan or who use Wikimedia contents. It provides a place for them to connect and share their knowledge and experiences.

Our goal is to bring together a wide range of people — not only Wikipedia contributors, but also contributors to various other Wikimedia projects, those engaged in offline activities such as Wikimedia outreach, those who use Wikimedia project content in their services, and even those who are simply interested in Wikimedia. Through discussion and the exchange of information, we aim to invigorate activities, enable collaboration and mutual support among them, and foster new initiatives.

  • The presentations should focus on people who have been engaged in activities within the Wikimedia Movement in Japan.
    • Know-hows and tips for when doing activities inside Wikimedia projects
    • Examples of using data from Wikimedia
    • Introductions and Examples of Wikimedia outreach activities
    • Various stories regarding Wikimedia Movement

Presentation Format

  • Presentations can be delivered in person, via webinar remotely, or as pre-recorded videos.
  • Including co-hosted events, the contents of the presentations will be streamed online.
  • Regardless of presentation format, disclosing of real (legal) name is optional. But you must reveal your Wikimedian Username.
  • For Webinar or pre-recorded video presentations, you can choose not to reveal your face or use sound synthesis software.
  • The content of the announcement will be recorded and published on Wikimedia Commons unless otherwise specified. If you don't want it to be published, please list it in your application form.

Scholarships

For those who will be presenting in person and are traveling from a distance, we will provide support for travel expenses to the venue and accommodation costs if an overnight stay before or after the event is necessary.

  • Due to budget constraints, there may be an upper limit on the amount.
  • We do not provide support to those who are already receiving support as staff.

Staff Recruitment

We are looking for a few staff members to help with the operation of the West-Japan Wikimedia Conference 2025. Recruitment is now closed as we have sufficient staff. Thank you for your applications.
