This annual plan outlines the activities proposed by the Wikimedians of Kerala User Group (IN-KL) for the year 2026. The plan is designed to strengthen community engagement, enrich Wikimedia projects, promote free knowledge, and contribute to the documentation of Kerala’s culture, biodiversity, and heritage.
Malayalam Wikisource Projects
[edit]- Digitisation Workshops – Training workshops to introduce volunteers and institutions to digitisation, OCR, and proofreading on Malayalam Wikisource.
- Monthly Challenge – A regular proofreading challenge to encourage continuous contributions.
- Community Digitization Support – Provide technical and logistical support to institutions, libraries, and community members for digitisation projects.
Malayalam Wikivoyage Workshop
[edit]- Content Enrichment in Incubator – Focused efforts to develop Malayalam Wikivoyage with articles on Kerala’s cultural, natural, and travel-related topics.
- Wiki Loves Onam Photo Campaign – A photo documentation campaign on Wikimedia Commons covering Onam festivities, rituals, Sadya, games, Vallamkali (boat race), and folk art.
Culture, Heritage, and GLAM Projects
[edit]- Folklore Documentation – Documentation of Kerala’s rich oral traditions, performing arts, and intangible heritage.
- Wiki Loves Museum – Initiatives to collaborate with museums and cultural institutions for content digitisation, image contributions, and exhibitions on Commons.
Data Enrichment and Reuse
[edit]- Datathons and Mapathons – Events to improve and reuse structured data on Wikidata, OpenStreetMap, and Wikimedia Commons.
- Wikidata Birthday Celebration – Celebratory and learning sessions marking global data events, with local contributions from Kerala.
Wikimedia Technical Workshop
[edit]- Wikimedia Technical Workshop – Community workshop to encourage the development of tools, bots, and technical solutions that support Wikimedia projects.
Wiki Loves Earth in India
[edit]- Wiki Loves Earth Photo Campaign – Annual campaign documenting Kerala’s landscapes, wildlife, protected areas, and biodiversity.
Biodiversity Projects
[edit]- Wiki Loves Birds in India – A specialized campaign to document bird diversity in Kerala through Commons and Wikidata.
- WikiProject Western Ghats – Collaborative documentation of flora, fauna, and cultural aspects of the Western Ghats ecosystem.
Community Coordination & Communication
[edit]- Monthly Online Meetups – Regular virtual meetings for coordination, knowledge-sharing, and updates.
- Offline Meetups – In-person gatherings across Kerala for collaboration and outreach.
- Wiki Women Meetup – Dedicated meetups to empower and engage women contributors.
- Annual General Body Meeting (AGM)– Community review, planning, and strategy discussions.
Wikimedia Content Enhancement Projects
