Wikimedians of Kerala/Events/Students Datathon on Commons

A Datathon program for senior school students at Indian International School in Dubai was conducted on 17th April 2023, under the leadership of the dedicated members of Wikimedians of Kerala. The program centered around the topic of forest and wildlife, and aimed to develop the students' data analysis and critical thinking skills. One of the tasks given to the participants was to add titles and descriptions for files in Wikimedia Commons that lacked them, with a focus on structuring data, categories, and descriptions. It was inspiring to see the students enthusiastically engage with the assignment and work collaboratively to achieve their goals.

Overview

• The idea of the campaign is to engage school students with easier and simpler tasks on Wikimedia commons.
• There are numeroous files in wikimedia coommons that are not correctly categorised or are missing descriptions, sometimes it is very hard for Wiki contributors to add those useful and more relevant images to Wiki pages.

Rules

• The activity will be only focused on Wikimedia Commons.
• This was given only for senior school students in Dubai
• The editing area will be adding depicts, adding/translating descriptions, Captions, and adding relevant sub-categories
