Background

Wikimedians of Kuwait User Group, also known as Wikimedia Kuwait is an Arabic user group dedicated to supporting and promoting Wikimedia projects within Kuwait and the broader Arab community. The group's core mission is to bridge the digital content gap by enriching and expanding freely accessible knowledge related to Kuwait in particular, and the Arab world in general. and works to advance the goals of the Wikimedia movement by fostering collaboration, organizing outreach and educational activities, and encouraging contributions to various Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, Wikiquote and Wikidata. The group actively promotes open knowledge, digital literacy, and community engagement through workshops, edit-a-thons, contests, and strategic partnerships.

This user Group is a member of the WikiGulf Council, having been one of its founding members. The WikiGulf Council is a regional body established to coordinate and align the efforts of Wikimedia groups across the Gulf region. Its mission is to facilitate collaboration on joint initiatives, promote knowledge sharing and capacity building among member groups, and provide strategic support for internal coordination as well as external partnerships with institutions, stakeholders, and regional organizations.

Group Mission

Our mission is to empower individuals and communities in Kuwait to actively engage in the global open knowledge movement by contributing to and enriching content across Wikimedia Projects in Arabic and other languages. Through education, outreach, and strategic collaboration, we aim to bridge digital content gaps, enhance the representation of Kuwaiti and Arab culture and history, and promote the creation and sharing of free, reliable, and accessible knowledge for all.

Guided by our slogan, “Share Kuwait with the world, one edit at a time” we are committed to making Kuwait’s rich heritage, culture, and knowledge visible and accessible on a global scale.
