Wikimedians of Kuwait User Group/Letter of intent

Dear Wikimedia Affiliates and Community Members,

We are excited to announce our intent to form the Wikimedians of Kuwait, as an Arabic user group dedicated to supporting and promoting Wikimedia projects within Kuwait and the broader Arab community. The group's core mission is to bridge the digital content gap by enriching and expanding freely accessible knowledge related to Kuwait in particular, and the Arab world in general. and works to advance the goals of the Wikimedia movement by fostering collaboration, organizing outreach and educational activities, and encouraging contributions to various Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource, Wikiquote and Wikidata. The group actively promotes open knowledge, digital literacy, and community engagement through workshops, edit-a-thons, contests, and strategic partnerships.

Mission

Our mission is to empower individuals and communities in Kuwait to actively engage in the global open knowledge movement by contributing to and enriching content across Wikimedia Projects in Arabic and other languages. Through education, outreach, and strategic collaboration, we aim to bridge digital content gaps, enhance the representation of Kuwaiti and Arab culture and history, and promote the creation and sharing of free, reliable, and accessible knowledge for all.

Guided by our slogan, “Share Kuwait with the world, one edit at a time” we are committed to making Kuwait’s rich heritage, culture, and knowledge visible and accessible on a global scale.

Focus Area

Our group will primarily focus on:

Languages: English and Arabic languages.

Themes: Kuwaiti and Arab content

Geographical Region: Kuwait and Arab community

Current Location and Regional Activities

The Wikimedia Kuwait User Group operates within Kuwait and offers various activities based on the specific focus of each project. Some projects are specifically targeted at the Kuwaiti community, others are directed towards the Gulf region, in addition to initiatives aimed at the broader Arab community, as well as certain projects intended to serve the global community as a whole.

We are committed to contributing to the Wikimedia movement and creating a meaningful and lasting impact through our initiatives.
