  • MENA Knowledge Gateway Project In progress… a collaborative initiative between The Million Project and Wikimedia Kuwait. It will be implemented in four phases throughout 2026.
    • Phase 1: concluded with creating 4500 articles in Arabic Wikipedia, and engaging 40 participants.

  • Wikicamp Kurdistan 2026 | An event jointly organized by Wikimedia Kuwait, Wikimedia Kurdistan, and Wikimedia Iraq. The event spanned three days and was held in direct partnership with the Youth Hub in Erbil, with the aim of raising awareness of Wikimedia projects across the region.
  • Sharing Kuwait with Spain 2026 | (Spanish Wikipedia) Doing..., Ends 31 July 2026, An edit-a-thon in Spanish Wikipedia in collaboration with Egypt Wikimedians User Group and the Wikipedian Light of Knowledge project, Spanish-language students in Egypt will write and translate a selection of articles about Kuwait.
  • Edit-a-thon on FIFA World Cup 2026 | (Arabic Wikipedia), An edit-a-thon was organized to create and improve articles related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in collaboration with Wikimedia Iraq, , concluded with creating 457 new articles, and engaging 46 participants.
  • Wikipedia 25 in Kuwait, The main Wikipedia 25 in Kuwait, was the official flagship event, marking the largest and final celebration of this milestone. The celebration brought together a group of established and Newcomers, people who were new to Wikimedia, and some partners. They were introduced to Wikimedia and learned how to edit Wikipedia.
  • Knowledge Gateway contest | (Arabic Wikipedia), A contest on Arabic Wikipedia, and a part of MENA Knowledge Gateway Project, aimed to bridge the digital knowledge gap concerning Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, concluded with creating 2155 new articles, and engaging 37 participants.
  • Wiki loves Folklore in kuwait 2026 | (Wikimedia Commons ) The 2026 edition of WLF in Kuwait. Although no local prizes were awarded, participants contributed a total of 126 images, helping to document and preserve Kuwait’s rich cultural heritage on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Edit-a-thon on International Day of Forests 2026 | (Arabic Wikipedia) The theme of 2026 is (Forests and Economies), Celebrated the essential roles forests played in promoting economic prosperity,, we marked this occasion by writing articles about forests around the world, in addition to a variety of topics related to the economy in general, concluded with creating 50 articles, and engaging 14 participants.
  • Wiki Loves Ramadan 2026 | (Arabic Wikipedia), A contest on Arabic Wikipedia, and a part of Wiki loves Ramadan campaign, organized in collaboration with Wikimedia Morocco, concluded with creating 1827 new articles, and engaging 14 participants.
  • Edit-a-thon on Kuwait's National Day 2026 | (Arabic Wikipedia), An annual edit-a-thon held in celebration of Kuwait National Day (25 February). This edition aimed to review content related to Kuwait within the Arabic Wikipedia by examining a set of pending edits and unreviewed pages related to the State of Kuwait, concluded with revising 703 edits, revising 19 articles, and engaging 8 participants.
  • Kuwaiti Featured Content Course | (Training, Arabic Wikipedia), was organized to train Arabic Wikipedia editors in the fundamentals of creating and writing featured content. It was structured into four sessions, with approximately 98 individuals registered.
  • Wiki World of Wonders (WWoW) | (Arabic Wikipedia) A marathon focused on writing about fictional characters and magic, including Harry Potter, magical worlds, fantasy and science fiction books, films, series, anime, and related characters, concluded with creating new 460 articles, and engaging 12 participants.
  • Wikimedians of Kuwait User Group Anniversary 2025 | The celebration being held on 10 January 2026, and included cutting the first anniversary cake, engaging in group discussions, and presenting honorary awards to recognize the best Photographer and the best Contributor.

2025 Projects

2025 marks the first year for Wikimedia Kuwait. The following list highlights 22 projects, and 8 training sessions successfully completed by our members, achieving significant outcomes (14,612 contributions) across a variety of Wikimedia projects, including Arabic Wikipedia, Persian Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikisource, and Wikiquote.

  • How to be an editor in Arabic wikipedia (First session, Second session, Third session, Fourth session) ( Training, Arabic Wikipedia) | A series of sessions presented by Mishary to three newcomers from our group, with the aim of developing their skills in Arabic Wikipedia and increasing their user rights.
  • Let’s have our images speak Arabic | ((Wikimedia Commons, ISA tool ), A joint project between Wikimedia Kuwait and Wikimedia Iraq to celebrate Arabic Language Day, observed annually on 18 December, aimed to adding Arabic captions and descriptions to selected images from Kuwait and Iraq by using ISA tool, concluded with add new 4059 contributions, and 10 participants.
  • Wikipedia Asian Month 2025 in Kuwait | (Arabic Wikipedia), This marks Kuwait’s first participation in Wikipedia Asian Month, an annual online campaign organized since 2015 by the Wikipedia Asian Month User Group. We joined in a hybrid format. concluded with creating new 81 articles, and engaging 9 participants.
  • Let's celebrate our Gulf | (Arabic Wikipedia), A joint project was organized by Wikimedia Kuwait, Wikimedia Iraq, Wikimedia UAE, and the Million Wiki Project to celebrate the national occasions of Gulf countries observed in December. aimed to creating new articles about Qatar, UAE and Bahrain in Arwiki, concluded with creating new 267 articles, and engaging 12 participants.
  • Gulf loves Sports Competition | (Arabic Wikipedia), A competition aimed at enriching sports content on Arabic Wikipedia, with a focus on sports in the Gulf region as well as international sports, concluded with creating new 615 articles, developing 108, and engaging 15 participants.
  • Kuwaiti Book Digitization Competition on Wikisource/Wikisource Workshop (Training, Wikisource ), a preparatory workshop held before the start of the competition, aimed at introducing participants to the basics of working on Wikisource by explaining the nature of the project, its objectives, and how to contribute. The workshop also provided a practical guide for participating in the competition, including steps for digitizing heritage and cultural books related to Kuwait.
  • Kuwaiti Book Digitization Competition on Wikisource | (Wikisource ), A competition aimed at enriching Wikisource with Kuwaiti content by digitizing heritage and cultural books related to Kuwait, concluded with creating new 1378 pages in Wikisource, and engaging 8 participants.
  • Maintenance Tasks 2025 | (Arabic Wikipedia), The group carried out an important maintenance task in Arabic Wikipedia, involving the removal of the «Fb team» template from 115 articles, and all of its related subtemplates, and replaced it by «Module:Sports table», which now performs its functions.
  • Edit-a-thon Wiki Loves Desserts | (Arabic Wikipedia), A joint project between Wikimedia Kuwait and Wikimedia Iraq, aimed at creating articles on the Arabic Wikipedia about a wide range of desserts from around the world, contributing to highlighting the diversity of global cuisine, concluded with creating new 302 articles, and engaging 26 participants.
  • Sharing Kuwait with the world competition 2025 | (Arabic Wikipedia), This is the official competition of the group, and this is its first edition in Arabic. The competition aims to creating professional articles about Kuwait in all languages. The Arabic edition concluded with 1,211 new articles created on Arabic Wikipedia, 370 existing articles improved, and engaging 40 participants.
  • Wiki Loves Earth in Kuwait 2025 | (Wikimedia Commons ), The 2025 edition of WLE in Kuwait marked the first edition of the competition in the country. with 16 local winner, and 2 intentional winners, participants contributed a total of 980 images, helping to document beauty of earth in Kuwait.
  • Wiki Loves Earth in Oman 2025 | (Wikimedia Commons ), The 2025 edition of WLE in Oman marked the first edition of the competition in the country. Although no local prizes were awarded, participants contributed a total of 918 images, helping to document beauty of earth in Oman.
  • Edit-a-thon from Kuwait to Iran | (Arabic Wikipedia), A joint project organized by Wikimedia Kuwait and Wikimedia Iran, aimed at creating new articles about Iran on Arabic Wikipedia and about Kuwait on Farsi Wikipedia. The project involved 20 participants and resulted in the creation of 88 new articles on Arwiki and 110 new articles on Fawiki.
  • Arabian Gulf on Wikidata: Item Creation Workshop | (Wikidata ), A joint project organized by Wikimedia Kuwait and Wikimedia UAE, aimed at enriching Wikidata with new and accurate items related to the Arabian Gulf region. The project supported participants in learning how to creating and edit Wikidata entries, ensuring improved representation of key elements from the Arabian Gulf. The project resulted in the creation of 248 new wikidata items and involved 14 participants.
  • Edit-a-thon Dishes from North Africa | (Arabic Wikipedia), An Edit-a-thon held to celebrate the Wiki in Africa campaign, focused on creating articles about dishes from North Africa on Arwiki, concluded with creating new 128 articles, and 22 participants.
  • Honna Podcast | (Podcast), A podcast created in collaboration with WikiForshe, consisting of two episodes, one highlighting women from Palestine and the other showcasing women from the Arab world who are passionate about reading.
  • Kuwaiti Women Editing Competition 2025 | (Arabic Wikipedia), A contest on Arabic Wikipedia held in March 2025 to celebrate women, encouraging participants to write about Kuwaiti women, Gulf women, and notable global women. The campaign concluded with creating new 721 articles, and engaging 14 participants.
  • From their Righteous Words Campaign | (Wikiquote), A joint project organized by Wikimedia UAE and Wikimedians of Kuwait, aimed at bridging the knowledge gap on Wikiquote regarding the female companions of the Prophet. The campaign focused on creating new pages and documenting the sayings of underrepresented female companions who played prominent roles in Islamic history. The project resulted in the creation of 157 quotes, 48 new articles, 5 expanded articles and involved 14 participants.
  • Wiki loves folklore in Kuwait 2025 | (Wikimedia Commons ), The 2025 edition of WLF in Kuwait marked the first edition of the competition in the country. Although no local prizes were awarded, participants contributed a total of 361 images, helping to document and preserve Kuwait’s rich cultural heritage on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Wiki loves folklore in Bahrain 2025 | (Wikimedia Commons ), The 2025 edition of WLF in Bahrain marked the first edition of the competition in the country. Although no local prizes were awarded, participants contributed a total of 103 images, helping to document and preserve Bahrain’s rich cultural heritage on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Eyes on Gaza Project | (Wikimedia Commons ), A community driven project documenting the transformations of Gaza before and after the war through photographs taken by local residents. The initiative provided a platform for Gaza’s residents to share their experiences, daily life, and resilience during the conflict. The project successfully concluded with 1,833 images uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, preserving these visual records as part of the historical archive for future generations.
  • Knowledge Game Workshop at Emirates Airline Festival of Literature 2025 | (Wikidata ), An in-person workshop on Wikidata was held at the 17th Emirates Airline Festival of Literature with 145 university students from 34 institutions worldwide. The workshop provided hands-on training on creating and editing Wikidata items, promoting free knowledge, and fostering collaborative learning. Participants collectively created 230 new Wikidata entries, focusing on authors and books featured at the festival, enhancing the representation of literary works in the Wikidata.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Wikipedia course | (Training, Arab world), A comprehensive training sessions on AI and Wikipedia was conducted with 50 participants from across the Arab world. The session focused on understanding AI fundamentals, exploring how artificial intelligence can support content creation and curation on Wikipedia, and providing hands on guidance for integrating AI tools responsibly within Wikimedia projects.
  • Kuwaiti editor project 2025 | (Training, Wikimedia Projects), A focused training session on Arabic Wikipedia editing was conducted with 10 participants. The workshop provided hands on guidance on article creation, editing, and Wikimedia community practices. Following the training, 3 participants have officially joined as formal members, actively contributing to Wikipedia.
  • Wktech Camp 2025 |  On hold, Planning to reschedule it for 2026 due to urgent circumstances faced by the university.
