Event Overview
[edit]The Wikimedia UAE User Group participated in a dedicated day at the Sikka Art and Design Festival, an annual celebration of art and culture held in Al Shindagha under the patronage of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. The festival highlights the Emirate of Dubai’s vibrant creative and cultural scene through a diverse range of artistic events, including workshops, panel discussions, and interactive exhibitions.
As part of their engagement, team members and participants explored the Al Shindagha district, capturing photographs of the festival’s activities and surroundings. They then collaborated to enhance the Sikka Art and Design Festival article on Wikipedia and update Wikidata with information about participating artists. Additionally, they contributed news updates about the festival to WikiNews.
To further enrich open-access resources, the team plans to coordinate with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority to obtain copyright permissions for the captured images, allowing them to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons for public use.
