Workshop Highlights
[edit]What We Did:
Wikimedians UAE organized a training session for the Media, Culture, and Society course at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication at the American University in Dubai (English Track). The session focused on English Wikipedia and the fundamentals of editing. This marks the Fourth consecutive year that the User Group has conducted training at the university.
A total of 27 students participated in the session, where they received an overview of the Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia, and its sister projects. This was followed by a hands-on workshop on how to edit Wikipedia.
During the final part of the training, students were provided with a list of articles related to media studies—their academic specialization. They conducted research on their assigned topics and began drafting content. Each student group was tasked with creating and publishing Wikipedia articles based on their selected topics.
Students worked in groups, with each member taking on a specific role, such as research, editing or publishing.
By the end of the session, participants were given a one-week timeline to develop their articles in their sandboxes, focusing on topics related to media books, television programs, and media institutions.
Afterward, the team reviewed each article, provided feedback, made necessary edits, and finalized them for publication on Wikipedia.
