Education & Literacy

Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom (Jordan) - Season 3

Building on the success of previous years, the third season of the "Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom" program was implemented in Jordan.

Scope: Targeted secondary education teachers in the Zarqa governorate.
Objective: Training educators to use Wikipedia as a tool for Media and Information Literacy (MIL).
Outcome: Strengthening the partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Education and providing teachers with resources to combat misinformation through the Wikimedia ecosystem.

"She is the Levant" Competition (مسابقة هي الشام)

An intensive edit-a-thon and competition held in November 2025 as part of the global "She Said" campaign.

Focus: Enriching Wikiquote with quotes from notable Levantine women and improving their biographical articles.

To celebrate the Syrian Independence (Evacuation) Day, a specialized technical workshop was held: "من النص إلى البيانات".

Concept: Volunteers transformed historical texts and timelines of the Syrian independence movement into structured data points.
Platform: Primarily focused on Wikidata and Wikisource.

Jordan Independence Day Edit-a-thon (79th Anniversary)

A community gathering focused on Jordan's national heritage.

Outcome: Creation and improvement of articles related to the modern history of Jordan, its national institutions, and cultural landmarks.

The User Group maintained its commitment to transparency and community health through Monthly Open Meetings held on the last Saturday of every month.
