Wikinewsies of Sinitic Languages User Group (Provisional) (Chinese: 漢語族維基記者用戶組（臨時）/汉语族维基记者用户组（临时）) is a proposed thematic user group to temporarily coordinate Wikinews-related activities in the Wikimedia community of Sinitic languages. This group is proposed on 28 Apr 2026.

Objectives

To support Sinitic-language communities in continuing Wikinews-related collaboration during and after the closure of Wikinews.
To promote the Wikinews idea of free, community-driven journalism in Chinese-speaking countries and other Sinitic-speaking communities.
To coordinate the migration process and related discussions within the Chinese Wikinews community.
To maintain reporting, review, and editorial workflows during migration and transition.
To explore future incubation models and possible hosting arrangements for Wikinews test editions in Chinese topolects.
To preserve free citizen journalism in Sinitic communities, regardless of platform or technical changes.
To connect open-knowledge communities within and beyond the Wikimedia movement after the WMF's closure of Wikinews.

History

28 April 2026 – The user group was proposed on Meta-Wiki.

Governance

This user group is based on voluntary participation, transparent documentation, and community self-governance. Members may join or leave freely, while resolutions and draft resolutions are maintained in their respective subpages.

Activities

Current and planned activities of the group include:

Supporting coordination related to Wikinews migration and future hosting discussions.
Maintaining the press room as a collaborative space for article development during the shutdown period.
Documenting internal resolutions, workflow adjustments, and community notices.
Preparing annual reports and public records of group activities.
Coordinating ongoing tasks and specialized work through tasks and task forces.
