Wikipedia & Education User Group/EduWiki Hub/Mentorship program
Overview
[edit]The EduWiki Mentorship Program is part of the Hub’s Capacity Building and Volunteer Support initiated by the Wikipedia + Education User Group to connect experienced Wikimedia-education organisers (mentors) with newer or emerging contributors and organisers (mentees) to build practical skills, leadership capacity, and enhance their programmatic impact. The program emphasizes peer and applied learning to help participants translate mentorship into stronger Wikimedia education activities in their local contexts.
Structure
[edit]The program runs for six months with 2 cohorts.
Cohort 1 (November 2025 – May 2026)
Cohort 2 (July 2026 -January 2027)
- Each mentor–mentee pair agrees on a tailored plan; the cohort schedule and minimum checkpoints are supported by the Hub team.
- Time commitment: 18–24 hours across the six months (minimum 18 hours required for certification) with Pairs planning regular check-ins (recommended monthly) and attending at least 2 check-ins led by the EduWiki Hub Staff during the entire mentorship per cohort.
How the Program Works
[edit]- Mentor–Mentee Pairing: Matches are made based on skills, goals, interests, and availability.
- Cohort Duration: Each cohort lasts six months.
- Support: Regular check-ins/ follow-ups to be self-led by mentors and mentees, with midpoints and evaluation check-ins organized by the EduWiki Hub team for each cohort, with continuous ongoing monitoring/reminders to help peers stay on track.
- Completion & Recognition: Participants who meet agreed goals and the minimum time commitment of 18 hours receive a Certificate of completion. Recognition (e.g., a special barnstar or profile mention) may be offered where appropriate.
- Activities: Mentorship activities include one-to-one support (calls, document review, peer feedback), targeted training and co-planning, and practical help with project implementation. Areas of support cover partnerships and collaboration, programme and curriculum design, outreach and community engagement, M&E, fundraising and sustainability, content/editorial strategy, translation/localization, technical tools (e.g., dashboards, LMS integration), and communications/storytelling. Mentors and mentees agree on the activities that best meet their goals.
- Evidence of Learning: Community sharing (a short session or summary) is encouraged but not the sole measure of success. To demonstrate impact, mentees will provide tangible evidence of how they applied skills in programmatic work (e.g., lesson plans used in a classroom, a partnership initiated, outputs from a wiki club, M&E improvements, or edits/records on Wikidata/Wikipedia). This helps ensure the mentorship led to concrete outcomes.
