March - May 2026

The period from March to May 2026 focused on strengthening technical infrastructure, expanding mentorship and capacity-building activities, advancing partnerships, and maintaining global engagement through workshops, knowledge showcases, and communications. Key highlights include the launch of the EduWiki Starter Kit, monthly workshops and knowledge showcases, expansion of OER resources, and active participation in global education and open knowledge events.

Mentorship Program

Structured implementation of the mentorship program continued, with Cohort 1 progressing toward completion and certification planned for June 2026. Cohort 2 planning was initiated through Capacity Exchange, including outreach, application preparation, and onboarding design. Regular check-ins supported continued engagement and coordination between mentors and mentees. Work also continued on refining mentorship structures and improving onboarding processes for future cohorts.

Workshops and Knowledge Showcases

The March 2026 EduWiki Knowledge Showcase was held on 24 March 2026, continuing the monthly series of community knowledge-sharing sessions. The event brought together contributors from multiple regions to present education-focused Wikimedia initiatives and exchange practical experiences. Preparations included coordination with speakers, interpretation support, and outreach to encourage broad community participation.

In April 2026, the EduWiki Workshop Making the Most of Wikimedia Commons in Education took place on 28 April 2026. The session focused on practical applications of Wikimedia Commons in educational settings, including hands-on examples and case studies. Multilingual interpretation was provided, and session materials and recordings were published for continued access and reuse.

The May 2026 EduWiki Knowledge Showcase was held on 22 May 2026, featuring presentations on ongoing Wikimedia education initiatives across regions. The session continued the Hub’s monthly knowledge-sharing format, supporting exchange between educators and Wikimedia contributors. Interpretation support was provided, and preparations included cross-community outreach and speaker coordination.

Partnerships

Partnership work progressed with continued collaboration with Capacity Exchange, supporting mentorship coordination and technical development improvements. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Volunteer Support Network, formalizing collaboration. Ongoing engagement continued with the ESEAP Hub. Collaboration with the Content Partnerships Hub also advanced, focusing on improving accessibility, structure, and usability of education-related resources.

Communications & Visibility

Newsletter activity continued consistently, with the March, April and May 2026 EduWiki Letters published and featuring contributions from across Wikimedia communities and affiliates.

Visibility efforts were strengthened through Diff publications, including the CAPX mentorship collaboration blog and the EduWiki Starter Kit announcement. The Starter Kit was launched and promoted through Meta and community channels, alongside supporting orientation sessions.

Events and Conferences

The EduWiki Hub participated in multiple international events during this period, including AfLIA Open Education Week Virtual Summit 2026, Open Education Talks 2026, DRIF 2026, and the ESEAP Conference 2026.

These engagements included participation in panels, roundtables, and discussions on digital inclusion, open education, and regional collaboration. Preparations also began for EduWiki Conference 2027, including initial engagement with potential host affiliates.

December 2025 - February 2026

The period from December 2025 to February 2026 focused on consolidating program implementation, strengthening partnerships, and expanding mentorship and community engagement activities. Key highlights include the January Knowledge Showcase celebrating Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, a February workshop on the Programs and Events Dashboard, continued development of the EduWiki Starter Kit, and active engagement with regional and global conferences.

Mentorship Program

Structured monitoring and support mechanisms were strengthened for Cohort 1, alongside adjustments to maintain engagement. The cohort currently includes six mentors and ten mentees. A collaborative draft on Making Scientific Knowledge Public Using the Wikimedia Ecosystem is in development. A cohort check-in call is scheduled for March 2026. Collaboration with Capacity Exchange continued to refine the mentorship feature and prepare for the next cohort.

Workshops and Knowledge Showcases

The January 2026 EduWiki Knowledge Showcase celebrated Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, featuring creative reflections on open knowledge and education, and offering multilingual interpretation. The February 2026 workshop on the Programs and Events Dashboard brought together participants from multiple countries, with live interpretation provided in several languages. Documentation of the workshop has been prepared for publication.

Partnerships

Collaboration with Capacity Exchange continued, focusing on mentorship development and contributions to the Capacity Directory. Ongoing coordination supports future program implementation. Engagement with the Content Partnership Hub explored ways to improve accessibility and multilingual usability of EduWiki documentation. Initial discussions also included approaches to better manage and utilize education-related data. Opportunities for further collaboration are being explored.

Communications and Visibility

Newsletter activity remained consistent, with the December and January editions published, featuring contributions from affiliates across regions. Visibility efforts expanded, including targeted LinkedIn campaigns and continued growth in audience engagement. OER documentation on Meta was enhanced with new resources, and a Diff post highlighted EduWiki Hub’s OER activities from August to December 2025.

Events and Conferences

The Hub is participating in several upcoming events, including the AfLIA Open Education Virtual Summit, Open Education Talks 2026, and the Northeast OER Summit. The Hub has also been awarded a scholarship to attend the Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum (DRIF) 2026, where it will contribute to a panel on open knowledge and youth digital inclusion.

August - November 2025

Over this period, the EduWiki Hub transitioned from planning to active program implementation, with progress across community engagement, partnerships, and resource development.

Mentorship Program

The first mentorship cohort was successfully launched, with participants now actively engaging in mentorship activities. The program timeline has been aligned with broader recommendations, and work continues to strengthen future iterations.

A key milestone was the establishment of collaboration with Capacity Exchange, supporting the development of mentorship structures and contributing to the Capacity Directory. Discussions with additional partners are ongoing to expand collaboration opportunities.

Communications & Documentation

Newsletter contributions remained strong throughout this period, reflecting active participation across the network. Documentation systems and communication resources were further developed to support coordination and knowledge sharing. The first set of OERs was published with contributions from multiple affiliates. Development of the EduWiki Starter Kit is ongoing, with modules being prepared collaboratively.

Programs, Workshops & Showcases

The Hub facilitated multiple community events, including workshops and Knowledge Showcases featuring speakers from across regions. These events brought together educators, contributors, and community members to exchange experiences and strengthen collaboration. A community survey on the Programs and Events Dashboard was also conducted to better understand needs and inform future improvements.

Events and Representation

The EduWiki Hub participated in international events, engaging with educators, GLAM professionals, and volunteers, and sharing its programs and resources.
