Welcome to the Capacity Building and Volunteer Support Working Group!

The Capacity Building and Volunteer Support Working Group empowers educators and volunteers through mentorship, training, and peer learning. It supports the design and delivery of structured programs (such as a Mentor–Mentee Program) and regular community events (EduWiki workshops and knowledge-Showcase). The group also recommends initiatives that support volunteer well-being and leadership development, ensuring community members have the skills, confidence, and support needed to sustain and grow Wikimedia education initiatives.

Selection Criteria

  • Experience or interest in training design, mentorship, or volunteer coordination related to Wikimedia education.
  • Understanding of community engagement, capacity building, or peer learning models for EduWiki community.
  • Interest in developing inclusive and culturally-sensitive support programs for members.
  • Willingness to collaborate across regions and share useful resources and tools for capacity building of EduWikimedians.

Responsibilities

Working-group members:

  1. Advise on program design, structure, and content (e.g., review mentor–mentee matching criteria, propose workshop topics, suggest or recommend expert trainers for Eduwiki workshops and community spotlights for Knowledge showcases).
  2. Promote inclusive, accessible, and community-driven approaches to learning and growth.
  3. Optionally serve as mentors, Trainers, or speakers in EduWiki events (Workshops and Showcases).
  4. Amplify the WG activities in your region /communities.
  5. Participate in bi-weekly WG meetings.

Hub staff:

  1. Plan and coordinate the logistics of mentorship, Knowledge showcase, and workshop with the communication’s
  2. Assistant including pairings, scheduling events, and communication with participants.
  3. Manage administrative processes (applications, registrations, reports, and feedback collection) of the WG programs.
  4. Produce periodic reports on mentorship outcomes, volunteer engagement, and learning impact for the Advisory Board and WG.
  5. Secure necessary resources and partnerships to ensure the effective delivery of programs.

Draft, collect and synthesize participant feedback to refine mentorship and training programs.

Time Commitment: Approx. 3 hrs/month.

Out of scope:

  1. The Working Group does not manage volunteers day-to-day or oversee daily mentorship activities; operational supervision is handled by the Hub staff.
  2. It does not replace or run existing affiliate-led programmes or ongoing educational classes; those remain the responsibility of affiliates and their members.
  3. The group does not deliver routine administrative tasks for programmes (e.g., day-to-day scheduling); Hub staff manage logistics and administration.
  4. The WG does not provide funding or staffing for local projects but may suggest approaches to securing funding or partnerships for community members if necessary
