Wikipedia Asian Month 2025 in Palestine was a local educational and community-driven activity organized as part of the global Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) campaign for the year 2025. The initiative focused on improving Arabic Wikipedia content related to Asian countries, cultures, history, and geography, while building the capacities of Palestinian university students and introducing them to Wikimedia projects and the principles of free knowledge.

[edit]Wikipedia Asian Month is an annual international campaign, usually held during November and December, encouraging contributors worldwide to create and expand Wikipedia articles related to Asia in various languages. In 2025, the campaign was implemented in Palestine through a student-led initiative aimed at training new editors, fostering community engagement, and establishing a sustainable local Wikimedia student network.
Objectives
[edit]- Enrich Arabic Wikipedia with well-sourced and neutral articles related to Asia.
- Introduce Palestinian university students to Wikimedia projects and open knowledge.
- Build practical skills in Wikipedia editing, referencing, and translation.
- Encourage long-term participation in Wikimedia communities.
First Meeting
[edit]The first introductory meeting of Wikipedia Asian Month 2025 in Palestine was held on Sunday, 30 November 2025, at An-Najah National University.
The meeting focused on foundational training and included:
- An introduction to Wikimedia projects (Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata).
- An overview of Wikipedia Asian Month goals and participation criteria.
- Training on Wikipedia basics, including editing interface, article structure, and sourcing.
- An introduction to Wikipedia policies, such as notability, neutral point of view, and verifiability.
