Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2025 in Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia is a 5-day Wikipedia training, edit-a-thon, and writing contest organized by the Wikimedians of Lagos User Group. The goal is to improve content on Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia by adding appropriate and high-quality photo images from Wikimedia Commons and enhancing the quality of articles during the sixth edition of the global Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP) campaign.

This project will also build the capacity of new and existing editors to contribute effectively to Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia, while strengthening our local community through mentorship and sustained engagement.

Objectives

  • Add relevant Wikimedia Commons photos to Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia articles.
  • Train new contributors to edit and improve articles in Nigerian Pidgin.
  • Encourage quality writing through a community writing contest.
  • Launch a mentorship program for long-term capacity building.
  • Increase visibility and quality of Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia content.

Project Timeline

Duration: 5 days (exact dates to be announced)

  • Day 1: Introduction to Wikipedia & Wikimedia Commons + Account Creation
  • Day 2: Basics of Editing & Citation in Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia
  • Day 3: Adding Photos from Commons to Articles
  • Day 4: Intermediate Editing Skills + Collaborative Editing
  • Day 5: Final Edits, Writing Contest Judging, and Award Ceremony

Activities

  • Training sessions on Wikipedia editing, image use, and policies.
  • Live edit-a-thons focused on image addition and article improvement.
  • Writing contest with prizes for best articles with visual enhancements.
  • Daily feedback and learning check-ins.
  • Launch of a mentorship network to support new contributors post-event.

To take part in this campaign, you only need to add at least one picture to a Nigerian pidgin Wikipedia article. When you do so, make sure to include the hashtag #WPWP and #WPWPLAG in the edit summary.

At the end of the international campaign, the people who have contributed the most will be eligible to win various cash prizes from the international team organizing the campaign.

Furthermore, Wikimedians of Lagos User Group will give prizes to the 3 highest contributors who added the most photos with the hashtags #WPWP and #WPWPLAG consolation prizes for the runner ups. There are also International prizes. Click Spadeex to learn more!
