Introduction[edit]

Wikipedians of North Caucasus User Group officially recognized by the Affiliations Committee on 23 October 2019. Below is the second annual report of our user group for the period from 23 October 2021 to 23 October 2022 (hereinafter — Annual Report 2022).

Wiki-activity / Contests[edit]

Date Event Note
28 October 2021 The Lak Wikipedia celebrated its 15th anniversary with a complete translation of the most important messages in the Lak language. The group of translators consisted of Artur Magomedov, Akhmed Dzhandarov, Amanda Alilova, Asvat Yangieva, and Abdulla Abdullaev (main translator). These translations were added to the Translatewiki with the help of Natalia Senatorova and Oleg Abarnikov (Soul Train).
1–31 October 2021 Co-organizing and participation in the Wiki Loves Caucasus 2021 international contest (online). Here are results of Russian Wikipedia editions, related to the North Caucasus (top 3 participants are indicated, except for those editions where totally less than 15 articles were created):
Avar Wikipedia: Omarov M. (15 articles)
Lezgi Wikipedia: Mugerganets (3 articles), Samurskaya (1)
Ossetian Wikipedia: Amikeco (41), Ualion (30), Sawbaræg (16), and two other users (8+1 articles)
Chechen Wikipedia: Simba16 (46), Саид Мисарбиев (15), Takhirgeran Umar (1)
Russian Wikipedia: (16 users) created a total of 601 articles. Top 3 authors: Dementiev Roman (202), ZIUr (153), Oleg Bor (104)
— A new edition in the language of the North Caucasus debuted in the contest. During the event, user Ruzanna created 1 article in the Lak Wikipedia.
Ukrainian Wikipedia: 211 new and 38 improved articles.
Tatar Wikipedia: Timlesj (36), Rimma Vasilieva (31), and three authors with 5+5+4 articles (totally — 81 new articles).
15 September — 30 November 2021 Participation in the “Alumni and Mentors of Russia-2021” competition.
— User Said Misarbiev (Chechen WP) finished in 4th place in the nomination in the languages of the peoples of Russia.
— User Mugerganets (Lezgi WP) finished in 11th place in the same nomination (out of prizes).
— User Samurskaya (Lezgi WP) finished in 12th place in the same nomination (out of prizes).
23 December 2021 The results of the Russian part of the WLM-2021 international photo competition have been summed up. Among the 10 winners, two photos refer to the North Caucasus. Once again, Architectural complex “Dargavs” in North Ossetia is among Top-10. This time it is the photo by Vladimir Pankratov. Another Top-10 photo made Arsen Alaberdov — it shows 10th century Christian Shoana Church in Karachay-Cherkessia.

29 January 2022 15,000 articles were created in the Ossetian Wikipedia.
30 March 2022 2,000 articles were created in the Ingush Wikipedia.
16 April — 31 May Participation in the “Alumni and Mentors of Russia-2022” competition.
— User Mugerganets (Lezgi WP) finished in 10th place in the nomination in the languages of the peoples of Russia (out of prizes).
— User Rida Lek (Lezgi WP) finished in 8th place in the nomination of new users.

Conferences, seminars, edit-a-thons[edit]

13 December 2021 Oleg Abarnikov made a report “Wikipedia as a tool for the preservation and development of languages of the peoples of Russia” at the “Direct Academy” webinar.

22–24 April 2022 Oleg Abarnikov took part in the online conference “Spring School on the Preservation, Development and Revival of Languages” (Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences).
Viatcheslav Ivanov (Amikeco) was one of the organizers of the event.

Small Online workshops took place at the Lak Wikipedia. Participants: Naina Akhmedovna, assisted by Oleg Abarnikov (Soul Train).
9–11 September Drbug (Vladimir Medeyko) represented WNC User Group in the Wikimedia Summit 2022 in Berlin.

24–25 September Participation in the 16th Russian WikiConference in Saint Petersburg (Soul Train, Drbug). Soul Train participated in a round table on editions in the regional languages of Russia, and made an overview report about WNCUG in 2021-22.

24 September Users from the North Caucasian editions received the Wiki Award for developing Wikipedia in their languages in 2021: Takhirgeran Umar (Chechen WP) and Taamu (Ossetian WP). This year, in addition to the Russian Wikipedia (where for the second time in a row the Chechen user Simba16 became the most active), Wiki Award awarded to representatives of six Russian Wikipedia editions, and two (or three, including Russian WP) of them belong to the North Caucasus.
30 September — 1 October Wikipedians of North Caucasus User Group organized the second Dagestan Wiki-seminar 2022 in Derbent (Dagestan, Russia) in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Lezgi Wikipedia. Soul Train and Mugerganets were organizing committee members.

Wikipedians of North Caucasus participated in the online conferences dedicated to WP editions on languages of the peoples of Russia (via Skype).
