Editathon Basel – Women's Football Euro Cup 2025
The Editathon Basel in Kasko for the UEFA Women's EURO 2025 aims to increase the visibility and representation of FLINTA* (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) and BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) in football on Wikipedia.
For particiapation please sign with your name at the bottom of the page, thank you.
Concept
The focus is on strengthening marginalised groups in football and sport. Two keynote speeches will serve as a central element to utilise and promote the connection between empowerment, diversity and sport.
What is an Edit-a-thon?
During an Edit-a-thon authors of online platforms such as Wikipedia or local wikis collaboratively write or improve articles. This Edit-a-thon is organised to set a statement for more inclusive football reporting and includes introductions for new users on how to edit content.

Date & Place

Saturday, 10th May 2025 11.00- 18.00h at Kasko in Basel.
Keynotes & Programme
1st Keynote Speech: Empowerment through football
The first input is inspired by the engagement of Tuğba Tekkal and her sisters.
Tuğba Tekkal founded the Scoring Girls* in 2016 in Irak and Germany, as a project of Háwar Help. It specifically targets girls and young women. Football is used as a means to build self-confidence, promote team spirit and address equal opportunities in sport and life.
2nd Keynote Speech: Impulse through Creative Tools with Rani Le Prince
The goal is: drawing & writing in a team, dialogue and role reversal.
Rani Le Prince is an entrepreneur, visual artist and empowerment- and anti-discrimination trainer. She has been advising and training people on the topic of ‘Art.Makes.Money’ since 2018, specialising in BIPoC, FLINTA* and young people.
The keynote speeches will highlight the key challenges faced by BIPoC and FLINTA* in society and in football – from structural discrimination and a lack of visibility to a lack of role models. At the same time, they will highlight the positive effects of sport:
- Visibility - Football as a platform for encounters, exchange and social participation.
- Mental and physical health - Self-confidence, resilience and empowerment through sporting activity.
- Impact - Showcasing the necessity of anchoring the biographies of marginalised athletes in the public consciousness.
Output & Goal
After the two inputs, the participants of the editathon will directly start creating and improving Wikipedia articles on relevant topics. The aim is to more comprehensively document the history and achievements of FLINTA* and BIPoC footballers. In doing so, gaps in existing articles will be identified and new entries created.
Expected results:
- Increase the number and quality of Wikipedia articles on FLINTA* and BIPoC in women's football. Raise awareness of intersectional issues in sports journalism and online encyclopaedias.
- Promote a sustainable network for diversity in the digital knowledge domain.
The Editathon Basel will provide a platform for collaborative work. We will work in teams and playfully push the boundaries of our possibilities. The use of creative tools will open up unexpected new ways of writing and drawing for the participants.
