Wikisource Conference 2025/Submissions/An Exploration of Collaboration With Google: Digitization, Curation, and Access of Literary Heritage
Title
[edit]An Exploration of Collaboration With Google: Digitization, Curation, and Access of Literary Heritage
Abstract/Description
[edit]Digitization: Exploring the role of Google Books in digitizing vast collections of literary works, thereby preserving and making them accessible to a global audience. This process aligns with Wikisource's mission to provide free access to source texts, as digitized books can be integrated into Wikisource's library, enhancing its repository.
Curation: Highlighting projects like the Timbuktu Manuscripts on Google Arts & Culture, which showcase curated digital collections of significant cultural artifacts. Such curated content can serve as valuable resources for Wikisource contributors, aiding in the enrichment of the platform's content with well-preserved and contextually presented texts.
Access: Discussing programs such as Super Searchers, an information literacy initiative that equips educators and students with skills to critically evaluate online information, especially in the context of increasing AI-generated content. This initiative complements Wikisource's goal of providing reliable and accessible texts, as it promotes critical engagement with digital resources.
Attendees will gain insights into how collaborations with Google can enhance the digitization, curation, and accessibility of literary heritage, fostering a more informed and connected global community. The session will also explore how these collaborations can integrate with and support Wikisource's objectives, enriching its digital library and expanding its reach.
