Wikisource Conference 2025/Submissions/How to build a new Wikisource: stories from Malay Wikisource
Appearance
- Title of the submitted proposal: How to build a new Wikisource: stories from Malay Wikisource
- Description: Wikisource is a good way of preserving manuscripts, but as it's not a popular website/project, Wikimedia movements may have trouble or uncertainty of how to launch their own Wikisource. In this presentation, based on the journey of opening the Malay Wikisource back in 2024, I would like to present a roughly step-to-step guide of launching a Wikisource, including before and after the launching. This includes community building, sourcing texts and technicalities.
- Relationship to Wikisource or to the theme: This presentation is done to give Wikimedia movements a clear guide of launching their own Wikisources, thus easing the initiative of textual preservations.
- Username of speaker(s): PeaceSeekers
- Session type: Lecture talk
- Duration: 45 minutes
- Outcomes: This should present a proper guide on what to expect for communities to build a new version of Wikisource, either from the multilingual Wikisource or from scratch.
