WIKI-TSWANA Ghanzi, Maun and kasane photo journey[edit]

This is a photographic tour and or photo-safari by Tswana volunteers to make a database of photos from Ghanzi, Maun and Kasane which are later going to be used to create articles in Wikipedia to improve the Botswana content.The main objective of the Photo-safari is to improve the Botswana Wikimedia content and increase participation in Wikimedia and its Sister projects mainly Wikimedia commons.
Below is the information about what is to be covered in the first Photo-safari:

Goal[edit]

Ghanzi[edit]

Ghanzi is a town in the middle of the Kalahari Desert the western part of the Republic of Botswana in southern Africa. This is where the first photo journey begins where we will be taking regular images that will be freely licensed, uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and used on Wikipedia articles.
The main topics that will be covered include the:
1. Khawa dunes challenge and festival; which is a motor sport challenge and cultural festival at the sand dunes of Khawa in Ghanzi.
2. Ghanzi show

4. Safari camp
5. Thakadu camp
6. Agricultural show port
7. Kalahari cattle farms
8. Matsieng foot prints
9. Central Kalahari Game reserve (CKGR)
10. Makgadikgadi pans
11. Okavango delta

Fiona and Fauna[edit]

  • Mammals including the Bat eared fox, Buffalos, Cheetahs, Elephants,Gemsboks, Giraffe,Hippopotamus,Leopard,Lion, White rhinoceros,and Zebras
  • Birds including the Crimson Breasted shrike, European bee eater, Giant king fisher, Greater and lesser Flamingo,Lappet faced vulture, Lilac breasted roller, Long tailed paradise Whydah, Northern black korhaan, Orange breasted bush shrike, Ostrich, Red chested cuckoo, Short clawed lark, Slaty Egret, Southern carmine bee eaters, Violet barked starling, Wattled crane, Woodland kingfisher.
  • Reptiles including the Black mamba, Cape cobra, Crocodile, Gecko, Monitor lizard, Puff Adder, Python and Tortoise.
  • Plants including the Wild date palm, Sycamore tree, Real fan palm, Mopane, Marula, Camel thorn, Baobab, African Mangosteen.


Okavango Delta[edit]

Our main focus at the Okavango delta will be taking pictures and writing articles on:

  • The land
  • The people living in the Okavango Delta
  • Threats to the Delta
  • Wild life in the delta
