Event Description
The Writing for African Women 2 event, organized by the Wikimedians of Arusha, focused on creating and improving Wikipedia content that highlights the achievements, history, and contributions of African women. The event provided participants with the tools and resources to better represent African women in the Wikimedia space, addressing gaps in content and ensuring their voices are included in open knowledge. This was the second edition of the event, following the success of the first, and aimed at expanding the scope of African women’s representation.

The event attracted 50 participants, with a mix of new and experienced contributors, all enthusiastic about creating content to highlight African women’s stories.
Event Outcomes
- Content Creation:
1.7k articles were created, significantly increasing the representation of African women on Wikipedia.
4.9k articles were edited, improving their quality and adding new information that better reflects African women’s contributions.
3.08k references were added, enhancing the reliability and accuracy of the newly created and edited articles.
- Community Engagement:
Participants engaged in workshops, discussions, and collaborative editing sessions, fostering a productive environment for learning and teamwork.
The event saw an increase in active participation from female contributors, leading to a more gender-balanced approach to editing.
