Yoruba Wikimedia Fan Club/Fountain University

The Yoruba Wikimedia Fan Club – Fountain University is a community of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff at Fountain University, Oshogbo who are committed to contributing to the Yoruba Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. The club operates both on-campus for full-time students. It is led by a student-appointed leadership team and functions under the guidance of a designated staff advisor and in collaboration with the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group.

Objectives

The objectives of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group Wiki Fan Clubs are described below

To promote the use of Wikimedia projects by among the students of Fountain University
To bridge the gap between academic staff of Fountain University and the Wikimedia movemenet
To increase volunteer editors for Wikimedia projects
To increase the quantity of contents on Yoruba Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects
To help Fountain University students learn how to contribute to the Yoruba Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects
To promote the use of Wikipedia as part of students course work in Fountain University.
To increase the reach of Wikimedia projects
To advance the mission and vision of the Wikimedia Foundation, Yoruba Wikimedians User Group and the global Wikimedia movement in Fountain University
Promote digistal literacy among the studnets of Fountain University
To advance free knowledge in Yoruba language

Proposed Activities

The activities of the Wikifan club varies from one academic institutions to another. The common activities carried out in all the institutions include the following

Weekly meetups
Edit-a-thons to create contents
Participation in thematic Wikimedia contests such as WPWP, 1Lib1Ref, Wiki loves X Contests etc
Organing social events to attract and recruit new members
Organizing Capacity building (Training) sesions
Collaborating with Yoruba Wikimedians user group and other Wikimedia affiliates to advance free knowledge in Yoruba
Creating awareness about Wikimedia projects within the campus
The represent the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group where necessary
They organize other events that aligns with the vision of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group
