The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group is one of the affiliates of the Wikimedia Foundation. The group was officially recognized as affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation on the 1st of August 2019 to promote free knowledge in Yoruba language. We aim to promote the use of Yoruba language related Wikimedia projects through various outreach efforts and to support people in western Nigeria to contribute to knowledge in Yoruba language. Since its recognition as an affiliate in 2019, the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group has organized more than 100 programs and has become one of the most vibrant Wikimedia communities in Africa. It has evolved from a group of dedicated contributors to Wikimedia projects into an organization that connects academia and cultural centers to the Wikimedia movement, serving as a vital infrastructure for free knowledge in the Yoruba language.
