Yoruba Wikipedia Fan Club Offa

The Yoruba Wikipedia Fan Club Offa – Kwara State is a community of undergraduate and graduate students, historians, Storyteller, Yoruba lecturers, Yoruba teachers and traditional rulers who are committed to contributing to the Yoruba Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. The club operates both on-campus for full-time student in collaboration with the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group.

Objectives

The objectives of the Yoruba Wikipedia User Group Wiki Fan Clubs are described below

To promote the use of Wikimedia projects in Offa.
To bridge the gap between community of Offa and the Wikimedia movemenet
To increase volunteer editors for Wikimedia projects
To increase the quantity and quality of contents on Yoruba Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects
To help our members learn how to contribute to the Yoruba Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects
To promote the use of Wikipedia as part of students course work across all Tertiary institutions in Kwara State
To increase the reach of Wikimedia projects
To advance the mission and vision of the Wikimedia Foundation, Yoruba Wikimedians User Group and the global Wikimedia movement. in kwara state and beynd
Promote digistal literacy among the studnets and indigenes of Offa
To advance free knowledge in Yoruba language
To preserve our cultural heritage

History

The Fan Club was inaugurated on the Saturday 28th June 2025 by the President of Yoruba Wikimedians User Group Mr Mikaeel Sodiq Adesina

Proposed Activities

The activities of the Wikifan club varies from one academic institutions to another. The common activities carried out in all the institutions include the following

Weekly meetups
Edit-a-thons to create contents
Participation in thematic Wikimedia contests such as WPWP, 1Lib1Ref, Wiki loves X Contests etc
Organing social events to attract and recruit new members
Organizing Capacity building (Training) sesions
Collaborating with Yoruba Wikimedians user group and other Wikimedia affiliates to advance free knowledge in Yoruba
Creating awareness about Wikimedia projects within the community
The represent the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group where necessary
Organize other events that aligns with the vision of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group
