Youth Conference 2025/Sustainable Event
You are thinking how to make your event greener?
[edit]
We got you! Here are guidelines which we share with participants prior the event to engage them into making Youth Conference a more sustainable event:
Transport & Mobility
[edit]- Calculate your carbon footprint and face the impact of your travel on the environment, awareness and learning is part of making more sustainable choices: e.g. https://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx
- Choose sustainable transport when exploring Prague: Why not explore the city by foot, try local public transport or rent a shared bike from one of the providers.
- Offset unavoidable emissions: If alternative means of transport are impossible and you have to fly to the Czech republic, you can always give a donation and offset/inset your emissions. Don't worry, we are going to put in practice insetting measures for this event, but you can always contribute according to your will and possibilities.
Emissions produced by your flight are calculated based on distance and shown in kilograms. Your donation will help finance projects to promote renewable energies, enhance energy efficiency, avoid deforestation, support reforestation and other causes to save a comparable amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
During our activities we usually prefer the form of local insetting - bringing the benefit to the area we are having the most impact on by our stay.
Waste
[edit]- Limit print to a minimum and recycle paper. Use digital supports instead of printing. The programme and all the practical info will be available online and at Telegram group. Free Wi-Fi will be available both at the hotel and the conference venue.
- When absolutely necessary, print on recycled paper and with eco-friendly inks.
- Quit using plastic bottles! Get your reusable water bottle and fill it up from water fountains at airports and public spaces or from tap (Prague tap water is perfectly ok to drink). You will also save yourself some money!
- The best way to save energy is to reduce consumption – think about what you are using and if you can avoid creating waste. For the waste you can’t avoid, make sure you recycle as much as possible.
- If you don’t need or like the merchandise, leaflets and other stuff, then don’t take it or return it back. It is totally ok. Most of the materials are made in a way we can use them on the next event.
- Pay attention to recycle bins available in public spaces and at the venue, and sort your waste properly. Thank you!
Food production and food waste
[edit]- Take only what you can eat. You can always have a second round or take a snack later. Avoid unnecessary food waste.
- Having a little snack prepared from home or reusable packaging on the go (such as wax wrapping cloth or small sandwich box) can help you to avoid shopping for junk food when suddenly hungry or having a chance to take the leftovers and eat them later. Together with a reusable cup and little spoon or fork you are always ready to avoid disposable cutlery, plates and cups. And as usual, you will be on budget too!
- Privilege local and seasonal food! Support a short supply chain and cut down the amount of transport responsible for greenhouse gas emissions. Reward local farmers with fair prices for locally grown products. Enjoy freshness and flavour of seasonal products instead of mass-produced, “long-distance” fruit and vegetables. Promote food culture and preserve diversity of local cuisines - we will do our best to serve you some local yummy meals to taste.
Collect moments not things. Lasting joy doesn't come from objects, it comes from experiences. We can’t wait to create some with you all!
