Blue's Clues is an American live-action/animated educational children's television series that premiered on Nickelodeon on Sunday, September 8, 1996.[1] Producers Angela Santomero, Todd Kessler, and Traci Paige Johnson combined concepts from child development and early-childhood education with innovative animation and production techniques that helped their viewers learn. It was hosted originally by Steve Burns, who left in 2002 and was replaced by Donovan Patton. The show follows an animated blue-spotted dog named Blue as she leaves a treasure hunt for the host and the viewers. Blue's Clues became the highest-rated show for preschoolers on American commercial television and was critical to Nickelodeon's growth. It has been called "one of the most successful, critically acclaimed, and ground-breaking preschool television series of all time."[1]

During the course of the series, 143 episodes of Blue's Clues aired over six seasons.

11"Snack Time"Todd KesslerAngela C. SantomeroSeptember 8, 1996 (1996-09-08)101N/A

Blue and Steve are having graham crackers for snack, but Blue tells Steve that something is missing. So, in order to know what Blue will have for snack, Steve and the viewers play Blue's Clues. In the bedroom, the viewers found the first clue, which is a cup. Later on, Steve tries finding Blue, in which the viewers say she is under the bed. Blue would move around from the bed until Steve catches her. Then, the two interact with a drawing of elephants on a piece of paper, and the orange one wanted the others colored in. Cutting back to the living room, Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper call Steve for help organizing the groceries, since Blue knocked them over. All of the groceries get organized, but Blue knocked over a cup of straws, which resulted in the viewers and Steve finding the second clue, which is a straw. Steve realized that Blue wanted something to drink, and as we cut back to the living room, we get a "mail time" segment. Steve receives his video letter from Mailbox, which featured three kids named Morgan, Perry and Brent, having peanut butter on apples for snack. Blue skidoos into a picture of a farm, and Steve follows her. After his skidoo, he sees chicks that had lost their friends, so Steve helps them find them. Continuing to follow Blue, he sees a cow with paw prints on it, which means it is the third clue. Now with all three clues, Blue and Steve go skidoo back home to the thinking chair. The clues are a cup, a straw and a cow. Guessing the answer as Blue wanting to put the cow in a cup and slurp it with a straw, the answer is incorrect, and the correct answer was figured out to be milk as cows produce milk and it is something to drink. Now it is snack time with Steve giving away milk. Blue drinks her cup of milk, and the characters we met throughout the episode came over for snack time.

This episode was remade for Blue's Clues & You! as "Meet Josh!".
22"What Time Is It for Blue?"John ChiappardeP. Kevin Strader & Angela C. SantomeroSeptember 16, 1996 (1996-09-16)102N/A
Steve and Blue have finished their cleanup time, but Steve could not remember what comes after cleanup time. This prompts Blue to start a game of Blue's Clues for Steve and the viewers to figure out what it is time for. Along the way, the viewers find the first clue, which is a blanket thrown over a rocking chair. Steve wonders if it was time for Blue to hide under a blanket, which is not the answer. When Blue and Steve encounter Tickety Tock, Steve excitedly says "Hello Tickety Tock!" and accidentally sends her clock hands, numbers and bells flying off. After Tickety was successfully repaired with help from the viewers, Steve heads to the closet and realizes that cleanup time apparently was not yet finished. In the bedroom closet were patterns of pajamas, footwear and stuffed toys, which the viewers help complete. Once the clean laundry was put away, the viewers find a book that is the second clue. With the first two clues being a blanket and a book, Steve wonders if it was "blanket and book time", which is not the answer, either. The viewers help Steve find Blue in the living room and it is mail time. Steve receives a video letter from a girl who tells about her favorite times in school. After reading the letter, jungle sounds can be heard from a picture of a jungle in the skidoo frame, so Blue and Steve skidoo to the jungle and meet a lion prince. The viewers help Steve, Blue and the lion prince find a frog, an elephant and a monkey by making each animal's sound. After all three animals have been found, Blue and Steve skidoo back to the house and the viewers find a pillow atop Sidetable Drawer, which is the third clue. Now that all three clues have been found, Steve has a seat in the thinking chair and tries to figure out what time it was with a blanket, a book and a pillow. He believed that Blue wanted to wrap a pillow in a blanket and read a book to it, but that was also not the answer. The viewers tell Steve that it was Blue's naptime and he sings a different version of "We Just Figured Out Blue's Clues" in the tune to Brahms' Lullaby. Steve then prompts Blue to grab her pillow, her blanket and her favorite book titled "A Puppy's Day". Tickety, the lion prince and the three jungle animals arrive to hear Steve read the story, which turned out to be the story of what happened throughout the episode.
33"Mailbox's Birthday"Michael T. HolmanAngela C. SantomeroSeptember 23, 1996 (1996-09-23)103N/A
Mailbox's birthday is being celebrated, as he has turned ten years old. Steve thought that everything was ready for Mailbox's birthday party until Blue tells him that his favorite party game was missing. To figure out what Mailbox's birthday party game is, Blue starts a game of Blue's Clues. In the kitchen, the viewers find the first clue, which is a tape player. After the first clue was drawn, the viewers help complete the sprinkle patterns on Mailbox's birthday cake that Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper had baked. Once Mailbox's birthday cake was fully decorated, the viewers found the second clue on top of a purple shelf in the bedroom, which is a tape cassette. With the first two clues being a tape player and a tape cassette, Steve knew that placing a tape cassette inside a tape player would make music. While Steve wondered what party game requires music, Tickety Tock shouts his name, which startles him. Steve told Tickety that two clues have been found and she warns him that it was almost time for Mailbox's birthday party. Back in the living room, Blue and Steve skidoo into a picture of a present store in the skidoo frame to pick out a birthday present for Mailbox. In the present store, Steve, Blue and the viewers come across four presents, which are a toolbox, a coloring book, a stamp collecting book and a pair of overalls. The viewers knew that the stamp collecting book would be the best present for Mailbox, as stamps are on letters, which he delivers. Mailbox's stamp collecting book gets wrapped, but unfortunately gets mixed up in two piles of presents. Once the present was found in the second pile of presents, Blue was careful not to drop it again. Blue and Steve skidoo back to the Blue's Clues house with Mailbox's present and Steve has a rest on a chair, which is the third clue. With all three clues found, Steve has a seat in the thinking chair and tries to figure out what Mailbox's favorite birthday party game is with a tape player, a tape cassette and a chair. He remembers that putting a tape cassette inside a tape player would make music but was unsure what game can be played with music and chairs. Steve somehow mishears the answer to Blue's Clues as "musical bears" when it is actually musical chairs. When it is officially mail time, Steve, Blue, Tickety Tock, Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper wish Mailbox a happy birthday and he receives a short video letter from five kids who also wish him a happy birthday. After Mailbox's birthday letter was read, the game of musical chairs was put into action, with Mailbox starting and stopping the music and Steve getting eliminated.
44"Blue's Story Time"Traci Paige JohnsonAngela C. SantomeroSeptember 30, 1996 (1996-09-30)104N/A

Steve and Blue are having story time, but Blue tells Steve that "A Puppy's Day" is no longer her favorite story. In order to figure out what her all-time favorite story is, Blue starts a game of Blue's Clues. Outside in the backyard, the viewers find the first clue, which are bricks. Steve draws the clue in his Handy Dandy Notebook and wonders what story has bricks in it. At the other end of the brick wall that was being built, Shovel and Pail needed help acting out Jack and Jill, so the viewers help get the words correct. After Shovel and Pail acted out the story, it is mail time and Steve gets a letter from two kids who put on a puppet show about a girl who met a silly monster. When Steve tries to find Blue, the viewers find a toy wolf that is the second clue. With two clues found, Blue finds a photo album, where the viewers help arrange the photos taken on Blue's first day of school into the correct order. In the bedroom, Tickety Tock sounds her alarm bells, telling Steve that it is almost story time and he and Blue skidoo to Storybook Forest to help Baby Bear and her parents determine which bowl of porridge and which glass of milk belongs to each bear. Outside of the three bears' house, the viewers find four pigs having story time and one of them is the third clue. Now that all three clues have been found, Blue and Steve skidoo back home to the thinking chair. Steve has a seat in the thinking chair and wonders what story has bricks, a wolf and a pig in it. He guesses "The Little Pig Who Cried Wolf" when the answer was actually "The Three Little Pigs". Shovel, Pail, Magenta, Tickety Tock and the three bears join in for story time and Steve reads the story.

This episode was remade for Blue's Clues & You! as "Story Time with Blue".
