Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

k6ka, Would something along "lau.for" work for this standard? Forthommel (talk) 13:47, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Forthommel, no, that username is essentially the same as your requested username, as the first letter of all usernames are automatically capitalized. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 14:25, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment This editor has created a second account under User:Mr. Ankit Kumar Pandey. It appears that the name change is to make his user page look more like an actual article given that he has posted a promotional autobiography on both user pages.  Not done You are currently indefinitely blocked on multiple projects, including this one. We do not typically allow requests from users who are blocked (unless they were blocked solely for their username). Please follow the appropriate procedures to appeal your blocks before requesting again. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 14:47, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ibrak90 → Socrates9

Robot clerk note: No problems found—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 18:10, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ibrak90, your most recent request was less than a week ago. Please wait at least one month and think about your new username before requesting again, since multiple username changes within a short period of time can confuse users. In general, we ask that users select their new usernames carefully and stick with them for a period of time. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 14:55, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dogmanstar1 → Mercyinyou

  • Current name: Dogmanstar1 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · target logs · block log · list user · global contribs · central auth · Google) (ping user)
  • Requested name: Mercyinyou (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · target logs · block log · list user · global contribs · central auth · Google)
  • Previous renames: current user, target user, Queue: open req, closed req
  • For global renamer: rename user
  • Datestamp: 19:14, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Reason: Dogmanstar1 potentially identifies me, a major concern given I am editing sensitive parts of Wikipedia. Unfortunately, my second account, which was set up very recently with a username that I thought would not link back to me, has somehow recorded in the "Special page" of "All public logs" my reason for creating it. Those who make legal threats, contrary to Wikipedia policy, and demand editors unmask me because they are somehow perturbed by my factually correct and neutral text (which has unfortunately happened in the past) may now see that the two accounts are somehow connected, which causes anxiety. I had not been forewarned that Wikipedia would publicly publish my reason for establishing a second account. I consulted the Wikipedia page on sock puppetry beforehand, and was confident that my privacy-based alternative account did not break any rules. I still believe it is legitimate. My editing has not resulted in any warnings or sanctions against me on that account (nor this one, for that matter). Unfortunately, I am even exposed with my second account because, as I have said, it's been noted and broadcast on Wikipedia as being connected to my first one, this one. So I have logged back in here to kindly request that the current Dogmanstar1 name is changed to something less obvious. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
