Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

Regarding global filter 241[edit]

This filter currently catches additions containing file://, often people trying to link a file from their computer in a page, like for example here. I was thinking that instead of merely logging it, it would be more helpful both for the projects and the people trying to add files this way, to trigger a warning explaining them what they're trying to do is not possible (and how to properly upload files). --KonstantinaG07 (talk) 13:28, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@KonstantinaG07 we could set it to warn, however a custom warning won't work well because it wouldn't be translated to the hundreds of languages - meaning the contributor would get MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning. Would that be better or worse? — xaosflux Talk 14:10, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, right, I had a custom one in mind but forgot translations are an issue here. I am now also not sure if it would be better or not. The ideal would be if these custom warnings were translatable of course. KonstantinaG07 (talk) 14:37, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also noting that global filters do not support custom messages. If you try to save changes to a global filter with a custom message, you will receive an error. So unfortunately, we are stuck with the default MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning & MediaWiki:Abusefilter-disallowed. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 14:45, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
