URLs tested [edit]

  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/ redirects automatically to (1) http://en.m.wikipedia.org/ or (2) http://en.m.wikipedia.org/Main_Page [dead link](these are not the same)
  2. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly shows an image and the content divided in hidden sections.
  3. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript - Click the W logo to show/hide options, and the Show/Hide buttons next to the section titles.
  4. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malawi starts with a complete table with flag, coat of arms, map, data in two columns - all well rendered in landscape and portrait mode (if both modes are supported in the device).
  5. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_Interchange_Format shows a rotating Earth.
  6. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IPA - go to Main symbols and click the speaker icons to listen the pronunciation.
  7. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debussy - go to Media, click Show and then Play sound.
    • This test is currently guaranteed to fail, as playback buttons are not hooked up to playback code on the mobile gateway.
  8. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page - Play video, image and sound should work.
    • This test is currently guaranteed to fail, as playback buttons are not hooked up to playback code on the mobile gateway.
  9. USA & data connection only: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_donating shows a banner to donate via SMS. Tapping on "25383" opens the device UI to send SMS.
  10. Slot for a 10th use case before touching the table.  :)

Legend / instructions [edit]

  • Browsers are listed in alphabetical order.
  • List additional rows for a browser only when the test results differ in a specific version, platform or device.
  • Specify the most recent version tested on top. Keep the registry of older versions only in major updates or when they have issues pending.
  • Specify the tested platform(s) and device(s). The default assumption is that it works in the rest of platforms and devices where it is deployed.
  • "Recognized" means that the user agent of the browser has been detected and you are automatically redirected to the mobile gateway. See also wikimedia-mobile / config / formats.yml source.
  • If there are problems with a URL please point to the bug(s) where they are reported.
  • Introduce the last check date using the format YYYY-MM-DD to keep the sortable column useful.
  • Testers: if you are official maintainers of the browser tested please add the name of your company / organization to your username.

Observations [edit]

Add here any comments you want to add to the table. Keep the alphabetical sorting of browsers and sign your comment, please.

Android browser [edit]

  • The browser does not support rotating gif graphics.
    • This seems fine on 2.3.3. --brion 17:55, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
  • Media play not supported
    • Playing the .ogg audio files linked through the speaker icon works for me on Android 2.3.3 (Nexus 1). Playback is never triggered for general media embedding due to the gateway failing to provide any working scripts for it, so never has the chance to be tested. --brion 17:45, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Bada browser [edit]

  • You cannot scroll in tables that are wider than the screen.
  • Browser showed only some single frames of the animated GIF and then stopped replaying. --Saibot2 (talk) 15:33, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

BlackBerry Browser [edit]

  • The sound file downloaded but had to be selected and then played. There are many links I find on the web that automatically open the file after download.

Maemo browser [edit]

  • The sound in test 6 is downloaded and then played in the media player. Not sure if it is supposed to play in browser. Also, the device requires the user to open the file after downloading instead of going directly to the media player and playing, as many audio links on the Internet work.

Maemo browser [edit]

  • The browser shows the full site. However this works at least for me, since the mobile version removes functionality and adds little else in this context. The N900 has a good display and a precise resistive screen, and I do full editing when commuting.  :) --Qgil 19:43, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
  • The browser doesn't render the Malayalam fonts of URL 3 out of the box. However, users can install the fonts manually or install the Texlive-Lang-Indic (unstable). I haven't tested but according to the screenshots seems to work.--Qgil 19:38, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

NetFront NX (3DS) [edit]

  • Clicking W does nothing, used to bring up options before
    • Entering text into search used to take you off-page to a read-ahead dropdown menu, but not for long. Approximately since then the W menu no more works. Might also be due to software update of browser.
  • Article sections are all expanded and have no Show/Hide buttons.
  • OGG files not supported, calls "unable to load"

Opera Mobile [edit]

  • Will play Ogg Vorbis files from IPA page through Android media player, but sound is unrecognizable (sampling rate?).
  • Redirect to mobile site appears to have been activated, maybe because of my bug report [1] a month ago.
  • The table data is for version 11.1; for version 8.65 on Symbian S60r3 it's the same except that version 8.65 doesn't recognize ogg files at all.

Symbian S60 [edit]

  • Browser crashes on most pages, although some small article pages do actually work. This is on a device with 128 MB memory. Strangely enough, this big wikimedia page does display OK.
