This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal
[edit]Khmer is the official language of Cambodia, where there are more than 12 million speakers. Khmer language is also spoken by other millions of speaking living in Vietnam, Thailand, Canada, Australia, USA and France. After the existence of Khmer Unicode font, resources written in Khmer language started to make presence on the Internet. And this also leaded a way to the creation of Khmer Wikipedia, in which I was actively involved in translating the interface into local Khmer language. Currently, there are more than 2000 articles and users in Khmer Wikipedia. Moreover, we are also expanding to other sister projects, which currently we have 2 - Wiktionary and Wikibooks.
And now, we feel that it's a good time to start working on Wikisource in Khmer language. One of the reasons is that, there is a wide range of Khmer literature to be preserved and made available to the public, and accessible for our Wiki community and the rest of the world. We need your support in making it true!!!
Discussion
[edit]Arguments in favour
[edit]My name is Sakada, I am truly a Cambodian people. I usually check the wikipedia website whenever i feel in doubt or i need some information. Eventhought, i can read file in English but i still feel very very sad when i see Khmer language does not exist in the left hand side of the main page.
Arguments against
[edit]- Before a separate project is created, please start adding sources to Multilingual Wikisource, and add Khmer to the stats here.
Also, I recommend writing a Wikipedia page about Khmer literature on Wikipedia, and organise for it to be translated to English/French/German. John Vandenberg 07:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
