Wikimedia Conference Japan

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Wikimedia Conference Japan is a loosely connected series of events to promote Wikimedia projects in Japan. It has been hosted by groups of Wikimedians, with the support of relevant institutions and on-site volunteers.

Wikimedia Conference Japan 2009

Wikimedia Conference Japan 2009 was the first of this kind of events in Japan. It was the first Wikimedia event in Japan which specifically invited "outsiders", from wiki researchers to occasional readers, to attend.

It took place in University of Tokyo and the venue was donated by the university. More than 200 people attended the event. [1]

NHK and CodeZine covered the event among others. See the conference blog for more.

Wikimedia Conference Japan 2010

Wikimedia Conference Japan 2013

Wikimedia Conference Japan 2013 was held on February 3, 2013 at the University of Tokyo, Japan. Following the two conferences in 2010 and in 2009, it brought Wikimedia users, researchers and general readers together. The official website of the conference was ww.wcj2013.info (archive). 日本語での情報は公式サイトにもあります。

More than 200 people attended the event. [2] It was fully funded by attendees, and the surplus of ¥303,907 (67% of the total income) was donated to the Wikimedia Foundation. See [1] for financial details.

AFP, Nikkei and ASCII covered the event among others. See the conference site for more.
