Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Simple Esperanto
submitted | verification | final decision |
Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).
The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Simple Esperanto | Language name in English |
Language name | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... | |
Language Wikidata item | please add | language_Wikidata= (search)
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | .wikipedia.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Simpla Vikipedio | "Wikipedia" in your language |
Project namespace | Vikipedio | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) | |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | File:... | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). |
Default project timezone | Europe/Warsaw | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal[edit]
It will propose Wikipedia in Esperanto but simpler to understand for newbies and less-readers
To learn Esperanto more easily and to be for esperanto less-readers, this wiki could exist.
With less text and simpler things, it is easier to learn Esperanto and read Wikipedia in Esperanto.
Plus, Esperanto is spoken by lots of people.

Discussion[edit]
- Oppose The Wikimedia Foundation does not seek to develop new linguistic entities; there must be an extensive body of works in that language. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:04, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Esperanto is already a language designed to be simple to learn, I do not really see the point of this proposal. Rorr404 🗣️ ✍️ 🖼️ 🌐 15:47, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose While I do understand the sentiment of making other wikis like the Simple English one, this proposal is incomplete and the language is supposedly already simple. QuicoleJR (talk) 20:12, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose --Fenikals (talk) 09:57, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose firstly, “simple Esperanto” doesn’t exist. Secondly, it doesn’t need to exist since unlike English Esperanto doesn’t have complicated vocabulary or grammar. Thirdly, Ido basically is already the closest thing to “simple Esperanto” (or at least “reformed Esperanto”) and has a Wikipedia. Dronebogus (talk) 00:49, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. Starting "simple" versions is definitely not a good idea, and several similar proposals for other languages have already been rejected. Instead, I have a better idea. In Dutch, we have Wikikids.nl, which is a Wikipedia-like project for children, and also the place where some of our prolific editors on Wikipedia started their "career".
