Highlights[edit]
Catalan Wikipedia reaches 450k articles and challenges itself to reach half a million before ending 2015
The Catalan Wikipedia reached 450,000 articles during February with a view to 500,000. The article number 450.000 was in question was L'executor Catalan name for the American film The Executioner, released at 17: 52H. If it took 6 years to reach 50,000 articles, now the Catalan-speaking community puts the challenge of adding 50,000 articles throughout this 2015. Amical invites everyone to bring their cooperation to achieve this new goal of the Catalan language on Internet.
To achieve this goal Amical has initiated several projects and most of our activities this year will focus on the creation of Wikipedia articles, without forgeting sister projects. Campaigns such as EU Wikiproject, Articles exchange, Xucladors (Free source URLS importer), Missing Articles or Requested Articles will help paddling towards 500,000 articles. New semester: Kick off of a bunch of new educational wikiprojects
One of Amical's big programme tracks is education. We believe that collaborating with educational sector is a win win relation for us: we gain new editors (and retain some of them), we get new specialised high-quality content, we can reach wider audiences with it and we spread our territorial presence collaborating with all the Catalan speaking Universities. Our educational system works with semesters, and February is the month when most universities start their second semester. Thanks to a commited network of volunteers, we have started new educational projects in many diverse topics, like brazilian literature, menaced languages, linguistics, musicology, among many others.
