CIS-A2K/Events/Introductory session on Wikibase for Academy of Comparative Philosophy and Religion members

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

CIS-A2K has started GLAM project with partner organisation, Academy of Comparative Philosophy and Religion, Belagavi, Karnataka. The digitisation of books is in progress at ACPR. The metadata of all the publications has been prepared and included in Wikidata. As the members of ACPR are interested in connecting their knowledge repository and data with the wider global community of scholars, researchers and enthusiasts, the idea of Wikibase project was introduced. The discussion was started with Wikimedia Deutschland regarding this potential collaboration few months back.

An introductory session on Wikidata and Wikibase was conducted by Bodhisattwa Mandal, WMDE's Partner Manager for promoting Wikibase in India. The session was attended by 14 members of ACPR. The session was conducted on 17 June 2023.

Prof. R. D. Ranade popularly known as Gurudev Ranade was a philosopher and spiritual leader, who believed in ‘One God, One world’ principle and practiced it in his real life. Through his works, he has presented synthesis of all paths leading to God realisation in a lucid manner. During the comparative studies of all the religions and philosophies, he has taken a neutral point of view with unbiased understanding of contemporary practices. He has integrated the gist from traditional folk and modern literature to develop holistic spiritual pathways for citizens across various walks of life.

To develop the Wikibase on works of Gurudev, ACPR is planning to prepare the structured data on the following topics -

  1. Yearwise journey from birth to death with major milestones (जीवनपट)
  2. Places and duration where he stayed
  3. Eminent persons he met - Radhakrishnan, Tilak, Annie Bezant etc.
  4. Lectures given by Gurudev - Date, place, topic
  5. Books, Papers, articles, poems, preface written by Gurudev - year, place of publishing
  6. Translated works of Gurudev - language, translator, publication year & place
  7. Works of others cited, referred to by Gurudev in his writings - Saints, philosophers, writers, poets etc.
  8. Works on Gurudev - language wise, author, publication year & place
  9. Terms and concepts coined by Gurudev
